The so-called governor is punishing the state employees, the public school students and the poor to try to fix a problem caused by his own inability to do his job. Until he cuts his own
salary and perks he will continue to look like the abysmal failure that he is.

I wasnt aware of that. I know some elected officials who are wealthy do tend to do that.
But in this case, he hasnt even earned that much.

He doesn't take a salary for being Governor. Otherwise, I agree that he is punishing the wrong people.

I am unhappy with the Governor, too, but what do you want from him? He is not a dictator. It is the legislature that controls the budget; so he's cutting where he can. Shortly after he was elected he called a special election to make fundamental changes that would have prevented the crisis CA is now in. All his initiatives were voted down, after heavy union and Dem advertising. He got the voters' message and began acting like a Dem governor.

By the way, it is the lobbies for the state and other public employees, the public school teachers and for the poor who got the legislature to pass the spending bills. Those are the real cause of this budget "crisis".

It's only fair that since those areas received too much money, that the cuts are made there.

The second to the last paragraph is dead on. I am a state employee and the 14% pay reduction hurts. We no longer buy anything but bare necessities. Any purchases that might stimulate the economy are gone and this cannot be helping the situation. And I am only one of thousands being punished by the governor because of the financial ineptitude of our state government. And the furloughs will continue through August 2010, so no major purchases or splurges until then.

Daily Horoscope for December 8

Leo

If you're worried about running up big debts in what is usually one of the most expensive months of the year, start keeping a running total of how much money you've spent so far. You might have to restrict the amount you spend on Christmas presents, or make other savings in order to stay within your budget, but you realize the folly of ending up severely out of pocket.
