I live in Waukesha WI which has been heavily hit by the flooding. One end of my street has been blocked off due to water on the roadway. And no, I do not live in a flood plain. Several streets have been closed in the city, however, that PALES in comparison to what the victims in the Dells and Vernon County have been going through.
My husband and I got married in the Dells last year and it was a perfect day. The Dells have been our retreat place. We don't partake of the lake activities but I feel for the people who do. I remember flooding in 1977. A friend's mother was driving down a gravel road and I don't recall if she was familar with the road. Her husband was following her in another vehicle. The woman drowned while driving. She had driven over part of a road that had been a small bridge that, unbeknownst to her, had washed out. Her husband (my friend's stepfather) witnessed this accident. My friend then moved out of town to live with her father. Yes, this was a tragic accident. It happened just outside Rochester MN -yes, Minnesota. I have lived in MN and WI - and there are rude people in both states and there are wonderful people in both states. Remember, there are many factors that contribute to a person's attitude. Let's remember what's important - people. Some people may regret not having flood insurance - but hindsight is 20/20. Also, in the heat of the moment, people do stupid things. A neighbor just down the street from me had water in his basement. His brother-in-law was helping it pump out the water with a gas sump pump (that's what I was told anyway). They failed to properly vent the room. The brother-in-law passed out from carbon monoxide. Fortunately, his is ok. I found out about this incident as the firetruck and ambulance were going past my house. Yes, it was a stupid thing. But of course they were trying to rush to get it done. I just asked the everyone exercise caution. Don't drive through water on the roadway and take a second to think before you react. That one second could change your life. And help your neighbor, regardless where he is from, whether he's white, black, purple, etc. We are all on this earth together. |

I drove to Madison today, stopped in the Dells People should know, businesses are still open, even Tommy show will reopen Thursday. Don't stay away!!! These businesses need our help - the majority of hotels & waterparks are unaffected by the flood. Keep those reservations, don't make this worse on the whole area.
Thanks! |

Thank-you all for your prayers and concerns about those affected by the flooding and eventual draining of Lake Delton yesterday. I will always call Wisconsin Dells my "home town" and right now it is so hard to comprehend that lake being gone.
Lisa - I hope and pray that your two precious cats will be found safely. Please let us know. |

1 You know what's funny? I very rarely, if ever, see an actual liberal blame something like this on global warming. What I see almost every time is that it's a conservative, posting something sarcastic about it (like this) to turn the conversation to that topic. It's not the liberals bringing it up, it's the conservatives trying to reinforce the myth that liberals are obsessed with global warming. Funny, huh? So liberals - don't feed the trolls. Don't engage in the debate. I know it's fun to make them look bad, but resist. |

My many thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the Dells area. I loved going there to visit as a child and love it even more now that I an adult. I hope that the lake will be back to it's glory so that I too can share it's beauty with my two children. I am saddened to hear that in such a tight job market that there will be hundreds more with out jobs and to those people my god help guide your way during this challenging time

Mean spirited? But your fellow Minnesotan was right?- you are right I should have ignored him or her and just let it go. Trust me I have learned here that not all Minnesotans are the same apparently only the ones I have had the "pleasure " of having to wait on while working in the Dells area who rude, crude and think that they own the place would print something like that. So...I apologize to the rest of the Minnesotans that are regular people and have class and manners!!!! |

After going through the area today... all are in my thoughts and prayers... it's hard to believe this could happen... my prayers are also with Gay Mills residents and others that have suffered from the heavy flooding and rain.

My heart goes out to all the people in the Lake Delton/Dells area. My Dad was born and raised in Wis.Dells. Our summer vacations were always trips to the Dells to visit family and friends, as a little kid I always looked forward to those days. Now that I'm older my husband and I still make the yearly trip to the Dells in October. It just won't feel the same this year. Best of luck to everyone and you are in out prayers.

Incorrect. Water show is - obviously - but they will be doing other things, an extended stage show and some other things. But let me tell you, the drive back here was HEtwohockeysticks. Water is up to the road (94) in many locations, the last thing they need down there. Good luck to all those affected. |
