Smith County Zinc Mines to Reopen

Full story: Macon County Times

Good economic news has been as rare as hens teeth in recent months, so the prospect of 250 jobs opening with only a 30 minute commute from Macon County has to be seen as a positive development for the region.

This is really good news...and I do hope that the people that want to take the mining course have the funds...and transportation to get there! Maybe they should think about car pooling?

So many people have been out of work for so long...it's about time something like this is happening!

Yup, it is great news!
Hopefully the employees will spend their income within their local communities too.

Has anyone been successful in finding out any information on this holding company?
An Internet search returns nothing. Of the thousands of mining companies listed, the mining info link below does not have them listed.

It would be nice to know more about the holding company. Information such as the safety records of the other companies they control, as well as any OSHA, and historical environmental information would be useful for the community. Are they a publicly traded company? A US and Canadian stock search of the company name does not report them as listed. It is great to get the jobs, but lets look at who is setting up shop in the neighborhood.

Wow, good news, here? I almost had to read it twice to make sure.:) It is a good idea to check the safety record with all of the dangers mining entails.

I pray that it does reopen. The write up in the Carthage paper, sounds like it will be a good company to work for. Just pray that there will be more jobs come back to our areas.

I really hope they will open and furnish jobs to our people but they need to show some finacial ability and not leave our local government and utilities holding the bag if they decide to leave or go out of business. Our taxes and utility bills are high enough without having to subsidice for a group of investers.

This would be great news, hope that our local leaders don't let the port deal get away from Jackson Co, heard they turned in a lease agreement to our county 2 months ago and we havent got back to them yet, guess they are still looking it over?

Got wind of a rumor, yes a rumor, that the same people were wanting to use the old nuclear power site to build a port if Jackson Co doesn't do something soon. Yes it would cost more but guess they are losing money everyday if there isn't one operating. That would also help with some shipping cost for the mine. Well guess we could get jobs in Smith Co and drive everyday, good thing gas is so cheap, ha ha. Maybe the Smith Co people know a good thing when somebody puts it in thier laps!

Daily Horoscope for November 15

Taurus

The Moon moves through your seventh house of marriage and partnerships, helping you make a fresh start in important relationships. This may be painful as stern Saturn and obstructive Pluto complicate matters; you may have difficulty accepting certain changes within yourself or someone you love. Some of you may also be in conflict with a parent; try to step back and see the great cycle of life.
