Someone is using the Wayne E. Bakewell @ 16 Elm St. in Brownsville Pa. to perpetrate an internet fraud.
An "e" mail on PayPal letterhead is sent saying an item for $699.99 has been purchase from Dell computers and sent to the above address and that your account has been charged. An attempt is then made to try to obtain personal information in order to "cancel" the order. This should be reported to your local police

I received this email today. Thank god I did a search before clicking the hyperlink. Basically, if you roll over the hyperlink and your browser shows a http address other than paypal's, be very leary.

I got the same email from PayPal??$699.99 Dell Inc. Panicked at first, but looking at the real links, not from PayPal, you hit reply, and a completely different email comes up. But forwarded to the real PayPal help at spoof@paypal.com and got an answer back within half an hour confirming it was a fraud. They have already taken down the website. Thank you PAY PAL

I got TWO of these from this fella this morning. Sent them to spoof @ paypal. Also checked the transaction numbers against my account - surprise, they don't exist. And the sign up is, as was mentioned, an HTTP address to an FTP site.

Got this a second time today. I sent the first to spoof @ paypal but all they did was send me an email asking "what was the nature of my concern". So if nothing else, I have been alerted to the fact that PayPal is pathetic.

Received it today, dec. 9, 2006. Am traveling so don't have any of my paypal info. Called Paypal, got no one after 15 min. hold when recording hung-up on me. After one year of pay-pal heartaches they have no regard for the trouble they cause. They are not secure imo. If I am charged, I am sure I will receive little if no help at all from them.

Don't do anything Julie, unless you have responded by giving information, this is all the sender wants - your bank details!

I received this email on 12/13/06 and have been trying to get in touch with PayPal. Does anyone have a telephone number that I can talk to a human. I get so many emails from PayPal that all go into my spam file. I tried to get help from Dell and everyone I talked to never heard of PayPal. I guess they do not have a problem in India!

My question is, how do these criminal get our emails from paypal info in the first place???

Something is fishy with ebay/paypal. How are so many theves getting our email addresses???

I get an email like this one every week or two. Obviously paypal doesn't care because the same guy is still in business MONTHS after this was first reported.

I also received the email from wayne bakewell and immediately called my credit card company to X out this charge if it did come through on my card. I cancelled my PayPal acct. because they are difficult to reach, and will never again use PayPal as a method of payment on the Internet.

the scam artist only wants you to login to your paypal account on his phony page
so if you did log on make sure you go to your paypal account as you usually do and change your password--soon

Yes I too got trapped by this Wayne E. Bakewell. he tried to get my paypal infor and tried to buy a Dell laptop. I cancelled the order and cancelled my paypal account. However, I had to cancel credit cards and change banks. This is so infuriating that I want this guy behind bars.
