As do a lot of other things, but how many people are calling for the ban of things that actually kill more people than guns?

Say; Vehicles - fatty foods - booze - drugs?

That is why people probably take anti-gun lobbyist opinion less than seriously.

There are a lot of things that contribute to deaths in a much greater number than "guns", but the anti-gun group never seem to mention or even be concerned about these other things:

Number of deaths for leading causes of death
• Heart disease: 599,413
• Cancer: 567,628
• Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 137,353
• Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 128,842
• Accidents (unintentional injuries): 118,021
• Alzheimer's disease: 79,003
• Diabetes: 68,705
• Influenza and Pneumonia: 53,692
• Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 48,935
• Intentional self-harm (suicide): 36,909

The above figures are taken from the 2009 CDC report: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/dvs/deaths_2009_...

The 2010 Report is also available from the CDC website:
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

Intentional injuries (Suicide, Violence, War, etc.) is in the top ten but note this isn’t just related to “firearms” statistics.

Just sayin…

If someone wanted to be outrageously, outraged about any particular cause of death and injury in the United States that we can do something about, how about at least pick one of the things in the top ten or maybe twenty group?

If they were really all that serious about it that is ~

At least those are my thoughts on the subject.

I have owned and used guns for close to 60 years. For some one the say guns kill really irks me. None of the guns I have owned killed anyone. GUNS DO NOT KILL, people with guns kill. Vehicles do not kill, the driver errors causing accidents kill. A spoon did not make Rosey O'Donnell fat, Rosey couldn't put the spoon down, that's why she's fat. You people need to wake up, if it wasn't for the gun owners of America you would probably be a part of The United States of Soviet Russia. Then you wouldn't have the opportunity or right to put post up like these.

guns do not kill, people kill. And yes it is only the bad apple that kills, my family, friends, and myself have owned guns all if our lives and never killed. And our guns have never grown feet and went and shot someone. You are very misinformed my dear. Now go try to prove that it is not the bad apples ( outside of someone defending themselves)

Please elaborate.
Is it guns in the hand of people or is it that a gun kills without a person.

I'm just wondering, for those who keep insisting that "guns kill" -

Can the point to a single instance where a 'gun has killed', without it being in the hands of an irresponsible or purposeful 'person'?

Britian has tried this. Not terribly successful in reducing crimes. Their street officers are not armed, and that calls for very brave law enforcement.
Not sure of the last British cop you met, but they are armed! They just carry concealed. And, btw, they use the MILITARY to do the heavy lifting in a fire fight...do you really want your cops walking around with an automatic rifle, grenades, etc.? I lived in Europe for several years...nothing is more intimidating that a cop walking the beat with a sub-machine gun hanging over his shoulder. And no compunction as to using it.

BTW, our Constitution and the 1st 10 ammendements there to are there for a reason. The first is to give you the right to say what you wish [unless you are in the vicinity of HisObamaness and his SS troops] and the Second is to keep those who would step on any part of them.{Check out Thomas Jefferson's The Federalist Papers sometime}

True.... So True, and when was the last time a gun jumped up and started pulling it's own trigger? Also stupidity kills but we can not ban stupid people now can we? Guns save life's.... Police can not be every where at once so if you think guns should be banned then if I ever see you in danger I will respect your opinion and not help you with my gun Chilli J, goose, and Deb.

Congratulations! You and the other apparently marginally-functioning simpleton below will be sharing the thread "Captain Obvious" post, so far, this month. Of couse firearms, illegal and legal, need to be operated incorrectly by some knuckle-dragging, mouth-breating 2nd Amendment absolutist / "Strict Constructionist" in order to kill others.

That you atom-splitting Constitutional wanna-bes insist that there's no such thing as an illegal firearm (or if there is, that there sure shouldn't be), helps create the volatile mix of mentally-imbalanced angry, clueless, psycho idjit and unsuspecting innocent victim. I've never said that a guy shouldn't be able to defend himself and his loved ones.

I'd like to think parsing words and cutsie post questions like your recent ones is beneath you. I could be overestimating your combined (total) 160 I Qs. Silly, immature posters like you Mongos are an embarrasment to all of us legal firearm sportsmen, who believe we must be able to own legal firearms, to use them to hunt and for self-protection.

Now, put on your point hat, sit in the corner and think about what you've done! LOL

I know what I did. Pointed out a stupid comment with sarcasm. If it offends you that much then maybe you are not as righteous as you think.

I'll accept your windy post above as your confirmation that you have no reasoned argument, under the 2nd Amendment, that would support your "right" to own a Mac 10 or one of the other illegal firearms, the sole purpose of which is to efficiently kill other human beings.

Guys who fear their ability to defend themselves in a fair fight, legal firearm vs. legal firearm, are sad, scared guys. Are you one? Why do your need an illegal firearm to protect you and yours? Come on over to my place, I'll defend you and yours from those bad guys.

Where in any post have I ever made any statements for or against what you posted above?

News. I have had to use my fire arms before in defense. You really like to assume a hell of a lot don’t you?

Again where in the hell did I ever state that I own or feel the need for a illegal firearm?

Again making assumptions based on your fear of what others think. If you agree with the guy that posted that guns kill then you simplify the problem down to all firearms illegal and legal.

I'll not read 205 pages of posts to see what you previously posted. If you say you don't support the absolute right to own and use any firearm, illegal or legal, I'll take your word for it. Show me where I spoke up for the prior poster who said simply "guns kill". You'll not find that prior post, because I know that I didn't make it.

A morally honest guy would admit that a gun jump off the shelf prior comment was simplistic and silly. Then you assumed, in spite of my statement that I was a sportsman, that I needed to be protected by you. That isn't the case here. I have no fear of legal firarms, owned and used by responsible gun owners, yet you assume that I do.

If you are not a member of the Constitutional absolutists / "Strict Constructionists" bunch here, that believe that they have the right under the 2nd Amendment to own and use any legal or illegal firearm, then good for you. If, like these other fringy folks, you believe that there is or should be no firearm that is illegal, not so good.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Capricorn

Don't take any risks when handling your finances today, because there are strange things going on. Someone may not be as straightforward and honest as usual, or can't explain themselves properly, which leads to misunderstandings and false assumptions. If you're spending money, make sure you're charged the right price and given the correct change. And don't let your wallet or purse out of your sight, in case you mislay it or someone nabs it.
