I dont know because I have only lived here for about a year. However if the city(s) are broke wouldn't it be a wise decision to combine Ellijay and East Ellijay? One Mayer, one police dept and etc. That would also let them use one set of offices instead of two for everything. Maybe I am missing something.

You are missing something if you been here a year. Ellijay years ago didnt want anything to do with E.Ellijay, Now everything and everyone spends time and money in East Ellijay. East Ellijay has no city tax and free garbage pickup just to name a few perks. Im sure in time the two may merge but I can tell you it will be no time soon and I hope its after Im dead and gone. "East Town" dose very very well on its own and we dont need The other city or county screwing it up. You can bet your boots I speak for more than myself.

Didnt know that. Also a good point. Only way I guess that would work is if Ellijay went under East Ellijay policies. Thanks for telling me.

Also living in Ellijay for a year I can see where Ellijay would make another stupid decision like they did with E. Ellijay. There are some real brains running this town.

Didnt know that. Thanks. That clears up a few things. Also makes sense that now East Ellijay wouldn't want anything to do with Ellijay.

You would think that the 2 Ellijays would combine but that makes too much sense so it is not likely to happen.

Well you got a felon for mayor in EE & a dope smoker Bluegrass singer in E. Go figure that 1 out.
Why would they want to give up the power on both side of the river?

Of course they don't want to give up their power...but why does it have to be their choice? Surely there is a way for the citizens to decide if consolidation would be better for the taxpayers.

It amazes me whether its the Government and those running the county to the horrible conditions at the animal shelter that the folks that live in Gilmer County put up with it and dont demand better. Look around you at other N. Ga counties and one can see that Gilmer has to be one of the worse run counties in Ga. Dawson, Lumpkin, etc would put up with the crooks and idiots running this county for two seconds. Look at those same counties and they are growing, building businesses and homes and their economy is improving. Its like people want to live in the dark ages here. The county does nothing but take away services while raising fees to cover their very bad decision making on how to save money. Garbage, Schools, Animal Control and Shelter, road conditions and I could go on and on. Im just asking why its put up with and why voters dont make the needed changes. This county does nothing to improve anything and offers very little hope for the future. I even read on Topix that some were upset because of out of staters coming in and wanting to open businesses. And that's bad?
I think all can see the way it is when only locals run this place. Maybe I need to run for County Commissioner and start trying to bring Gilmer out of the dark ages.

East Ellijay is certainly the jewel of the
county ( and maybe the State ).

Why don't we let them run the county ( including
the BOE )?

East Ellijay's Book Nook and Party Shop Paradise are going out of business. If it was so good in East Ellijay, why are these businesses going out? This is another reason why East Ellijay and Ellijay should bury the hatchet. Even well established businesses are having a hard time on "no-brainer" Highway 515. We must demand these cities work together. This is the year to overthrow (vote-out) the existing guards and make the change for the better.

East Town has it's problems. I brought up the fact that some major businesses along Highway 515 were closing was bring out the fact that for so long, businesses thought the answer to survival was to move close to Highway 515. More businesses closing along Highway 515 is greater evidence that being located along 515 is not necessarily the answer to survival. The two cities should unify before the Ellijays become irrelevant.

The Ellijays are already irrelevant. The best thing that could happen now would be for the LEO of the city, county and state to slow the speeders down on 515 and the revenue could save all. If you are against this, you are a speed violater.

Your not being realistic, Will Atlanta become irrelevant if a business closes? Heck if it all packs up and goes the world wont stop. The happiest times we knew were when nothing was there. Im not sure what your calling major business, The largest reason for most business failure is insufficient start up capital, This will happen in good times if a fool is at the wheel. And of course good access like 515 or corner lots are better for business. And again why would you wanna take something that works and screw it up by mixing it with something that WILl spoil it. I hope they never merge.

Daily Horoscope for May 18

Taurus

Loved ones are hard to handle today because they refuse to do what you ask. It's a very trying experience but there doesn't seem to be much you can do about it. You might also see a new side to a certain person now, perhaps when they talk about something that's very important to them which you knew nothing about until now.
