Moving Back to Ellijay

I'm moving back to Ellijay after 3 years away. Can anyone tell me what stores and business's have closed in the last 3 years. I'm really curious and would like to know before I move back in July.

A bunch of businesses have closed.Several eating places too numerous to remember.It's not a good business atmosphere right now.No real estate is selling except foreclosures. Sounds like the area car dealers are starting to sell cars in numbers m once again.Pray for a change at the White house and positive changes in the way the local banks now do business.

I hope you are retired, or independently wealthy. There are no JOBS.

I work from my computer so I can work anywhere. However, no one has answered my question yet.

In ellijay, Pool Room closed, reopened as Blue Door, closed. Future plans to reopen. A lot of the little stores around square have shut down. Blue Ridge Carpet is history. Tim Bu Tu closed, weeds are taking over. KFC closed. Mexican Restaurant in front of Lowes closed. Building Supply across from Spring Plaza closed, but will be future home of Fabtech. Julies restaurant East Ellijay closed. Sonic was closed , but has since reopened. Banks have either closed or reopened under new names. I think you get the picture not a pretty sight. Most restaurants that open stay open just a few months unless it is one of the major chains. Lots of foreclosures in county. Oh yeah, Oakland school is also now closed, but I let other people tell you the details on that.

- Waffle King, closed.

- Rich mountain traders, gun store and range, closed.

- Book store (two) closed.

- Music store, closed.

- Bailey Toggery, closed.

- Gold's Gym, closed.

- Ruthies, closed.

- Ice cream place by Lowes, closed.

- Fireplace store, closed.

- Italian restaurant by Lowes, closed.

- BOE castle, Opened.

Unless you just have a love of the county, I would recommend about anywhere else than here. The county has MAJOR debt problems.

One of the best jobs is being a guy in Atlanta who advises the BOE on its Real Estate acquisitions.$50,000 for a couple of phone calls to find the only property in the county that's contaminated with PCBs.

Funny you mention the PCBs. Do you realize that when C&S took over the Bank of Ellijay it was allowed to go through the assets one by one and decide whether or not to take them. The FDIC wants the new bank to take everything, but there are usually a couple of assets that the new bank thinks they will never be able to unload so they refuse to take them and they remain with the FDIC. C&S took almost everything EXCEPT the Bank of Ellijay Building. Wonder why that was? Maybe C&S saw the requirement for Phase II testing by the EPA ... and knew better. But the real estate speculators on our current Board of Education apparently knew a good thing when they found it unlike the real estate professionals at a Mortgage bank.

Or maybe the Buyer's Agent was responsible for highlighting that property?

We are getting valero gas station and Dunkin Donuts. A new Mexican restaurant across from Lowe's.

I'm sure I missed some but it sure is better to be positive sometimes.
