Barnyard fowl are penned in a chain link enclosure in the backyard of a residence in South Los Angeles. Some area residents complain that their neighborhood is being overrun with roosters. The problem illustrates an ongoing divide in a traditionally black neighborhood that is transitioning into a Latino enclave.
Once predominantly African American, the area has seen an influx of Latino immigrants, along with their roosters, chickens and other barnyard beasts not typically part of the urban scene.

It’s hard to be irrelevant when a service organization listens to the concerns and expressed needs of its constituents. Yet here is where I believe the NAACP has been embarrassingly successful. Simply doing the same things that have always been done and applying tactics that worked in the past to current problems will not move a race relations or social justice agenda in our larger national black community, state or local communities forward. I believe that the youth and experience of the new president and CEO is a promising sign that the NAACP is embracing change and new generations’ knowledge, experience, and foresight. I remain hopeful that this organization, like many that have faltered, can change. However, this is guarded hopefulness because the recent history of the NAACP has been more about the preservation of its place in history rather than ensuring its usefulness in the future.

Who cares about the NAACP or Ben Jealous? I know myself and millions of other blacks don't.

Hey Mr.black democrat - not you again!Thought I'd heard the last of your lies.Unlike you, most of us know that it's YOU and people like you, who are wanting to keep us divided,by all that black built-up hate and rage.The best thing you can do is to leave all that bad baggage at the airport or somewhere.Just your handle of "black democrat" tells us a lot about you. We all know that if you're black the odds are 98% that you're democrat to the core. Which brings up another extremely important point.I'm sure you won't address this;but, how can practically all blacks be members of the democratic party.And while we're in the neighborhood,why with the blacks being around 13 percent of our population, would it not stand to reason that black people should be involved in 13 percent of crime in America, instead of the 74 percent figures that just came out of the Washington Bureau of National Crime Statistics. Can you address these issues without your usual fog and smoke, please sir.

The NAACP should be banned period. It's an useless organization that lost it's focused years ago. They NAACP should be speaking out against illegal immigration and the influx of illegal aliens into black neighborhoods.

The NAACP is a special interest group, plain and simple. They have no more relevance to the country as a whole than the NRA, AARP, Sierra club, whatever. And as pretty much everyone has recognized, including "people of color", their answer to pretty much every problem in the Black community is to blame racism, then throw a protest march and candlelight vigil. And now another chapter is needed? Give me a BREAK!!
