1 Your compassion is underwhelming. There is no Plan B. As long as you have yours. Right? |

Most people do not have the option of a rainy day fund they are living paycheck to pay check and become the endorsers of the Dems that are supposedly in their corner. I do agree that individual responsibility is the key to success but many fall through the cracks.... |

1 Agreed! I know of a few people who are collecting unemployment comp. And riding it out for everything its worth while working under the table. Glad they were just an aquiantance. But people loose the will to work with all the extension! And some haven't worked as long as they've been collecting. Crazy! |

The REAL question.... is what kind of skill does a "58-year-old divorcee" have that an employer would want to hire her for?

The goverment created outsourcing by taxing and regualating the crap out of business. And the union demands finished them off. |

1 If you'd get your head out of your ass, you'd see that there are no jobs, especially for a woman her age. Plans are great when there are options. I'm going to guess that your job is not in any academic field. That's okay. I'm sure you make a fine sandwich. |

1 There were 653 resumes in the folder. I have applied to 653 jobs, each with a customized resume, and cover letter, and I am still unemployed. BTW I have a B.S. and half of a Master's degree. I am 38 years old. So to you unsympathetic aholes out there, it doesn't matter how hard you try, how much you "plan", it is total luck at this point. I applied to a job last week, had an interview for what I thought would be a decent job, only to be told it only paid $10 an hour and had no benefits. I thanked them and left. What good is $10 an hour and no benefits? I wouldn't even be able to pay my mortgage on such a tiny salary. With the cost of living in the US anything under $25 an hour isn't even worth giving up your unemployment check for. The problem is, what do you do when the unemployment checks run out? How long can you live on your savings? I had $30G saved up but I will burn through it in no time once the unemployment runs out. Unbelievable. |

The American society is being set back to wages before unions. Unions have extorted higher and higher pay for their members and thus driven the cost of living up to a point that even minimum wage is ridiculously low. A college education in these soft fields such as computer science are being taken over by foreign countries due to the high wages in the US. Jimbo, you may have to swallow your pride and take a lower paying job because unemployment will not continue to support you - it has to come from somewhere too.
