I would like to say the owner of Accell Fitness returned my call in a timely manner and addressed my situation. It does appear that there will be a better explanation in the future to members.
Thanks Jeff Johnson |

Mr. Johnson-
Our policy: There is a 30 day notice on cancellations. You were told that by 3 different employees, which I would argue is pretty good training since you got the same answer from all 3 of them. You signed an agreement that explains that policy. Just like rent in an apartment, you're billed for the entire last month. I'm sorry you misunderstood, but we were never hiding anything, nor were we trying to trick you. As for the website...Are you suggesting we should only offer 1 type of membership? We have members who pay 14.95 as well as 19.95 as well as 22.95. They paid different joining fees. We also have members who are month-to-month and paid-in-full. We offer different memberships options because there are different needs and wants with members. We try to be accomodating. I appreciated your candor yesterday on the phone; I didn't realize you were going to badmouth us on the internet. Our prices are EXTREMELY reasonable. Our equipment is TOP OF THE LINE. Every member gets a FREE PERSONAL TRAINING SESSION to help them get started. We offer MONTHLY memberships so members don't have to feel TRAPPED in a 1, 2 or 3 year contract. There is always an employee willing to help any member who asks! Despite trying to be as fair as I can, I can't make everyone happy. As I said to you yesterday on the phone, I am sorry you feel tricked or misinformed. I will make sure we spend more time explaining the policy. We normally don't have issues with the policy but every now and again it has to be explained in more detial I guess. I also told you I would talk to my manager, and I have. You admitted to me yesterday when I talked to you that you were pretty hot and upset while talking to my manager. I notice you didn't mention that when calling my "so called manager" rude. I find that interesting. Again, thanks for your candor. We will do what we can to make the appropriate changes. |

1 You made it sound good as I figured. However I did not forget to check back until now. I told you first thing I would speak my issue's online and openly which I have. To say your agreement is just like rent is totally incorrectblah blah yes I signed the agreement. However if a tenant makes payments on the 1st of every month and and on the 10th of the month the decide to cancell the tenant only pays until the 10th of the next month. However at Accel fitness if your payment is with drawn on the 8th of the month and you decide to cancell on the 10th. The 8th of the next month a full month is paid for for the account. So actually you as a consumer will pay for 58 days when they put in a 30 day cancellation at Accel fitness. Yes I still feel your manager was rude but it was obviously just doing his job or being rude to a customer. Yes Joe you also stood behind your word!!(not) ohh wait I was still charged for the additional 20 sum days. As for your customer service I am still waiting for them to send me the info as well. So finally had to call again and get the fax # since your employees failed to get me the info faxed. |

You guys are some of the most immature adults, I cannnot believe it. You are paying a very reasonable fee to use fantastic equipment.
I also cannot believe how upset some of you get if you have to park a few spots away from the building. Who cares?? It's not the end of the world if you can't get a front row parking spot. This whole conversation has humored me, I just get more and more upset with the way adults act in today's world. The only problem I ever had there was this morning. Two girls were working at the front desk at about 9:00. Neither of them said hello or goodbye as I came and went. I thought it was a little rude, but I didn't go around cussing out the owner or talking trash about Accel. For whatever the reason was, those girls didn't see a reason to say anything to me, and that's their decision. Overall, I think Accel has done a good job and I enjoy it. I would like to see a few more squat stations however at the WDM location. Also, I wouldn't mind a few more younger male employees who are strong and can help spot me. |
Exactly! All they hire are pretty little slutty teeny-boppers who know absolutly nothing about weight lifting, nor are they capable of helping anyone any further than shutting off their treadmills or wiping them clean.
The parking ISSUE they have is more about the principle of the matter and not being rude by hogging up all the places closest to the building. The owner doesnt seem to mind that they do because it's been brought to his attention but he still allows it to happen. |

The owner is a very nice guy. He will even bang his employees girlfreinds for them. He is all class.

I personaly love Accel Fitness....I have had nothing but good experiences there. Everyone seems to be friendly and willing to help. I mostly like to do my workouts and get in and out. I don't really have time to worry about who says *hi* or *goodbye* to me on any given day....I had a personal training session with Chris at Ankeny and I found her to be knowledgable and very helpful. She gave me an easy routine for stregth training that I can easily do in 30 min. with my cardio workout I can get in and out in and hour and 15 min. IT's clean, top notch equiptment, and helpful staff IMHO, and who can beat $19.95. In todays economy I appreciate having a gym that doesn't break my bank and is still nice!
Thanks Accel Fitness! |

I personaly hate the place. I wish they had guys working there who could and would actually help spot people while they're working out. They very few guys who do work there, only sit behind the desk and watch T.V.
Ankeny really is in need of another gym. |
Why do people complain instead of ask questions? You are all tools. I've never had a problem with a spot. I've never had an issue with the employees. It gets busy but any gym does this time of year. Some people, like Mike, seem to bitch one hell of a lot. Get a life. Im sure people hate you because of your bitching
Tim, you little puke. You probably have no problem getting a spot because, all you probably need is a bimbo spot anyway. You wouldnt know a real gym even if it fell on you!
Wow, these Granger people all sound the same. I'm guessing it's the same person pretending they're someone different each time. That's pathetic!
The funny thing is that they "hate" this gym so much. They complain about it. Yet they keep checking this site. I'm guessing you're a competitor just trying to make yourself look better? |
I NOTICED WHEN I POSTED THIS THAT IT AOUTOMATICALLY ASSIGNED ME TO A CITY THAT I'M NOT FROM. NOT SURE THE CITY DESIGNATION IS VERY ACCURATE HERE......
What Ankeny really needs is a big gym to open up to show these wannabee gyms what it's all about.
I heard we have aa Gold's Gym coming. ANyone know if this is true??? |
I don't think Golds is coming, I heard they were doing poorly in Clive...And Golds is the biggest tool gym!! I'm from the East Coast and was a member of it, because of lack of competition. It was very dirty and arrogant. We need a Lifetime Fitness or LA Fitness!!
If you have members waiting to tan, don't let the employees go ahead of them. It's easier to keep a customer then have to replace one.
Thanks for the info, Kate. I'll make sure that doesn't happen again!

Raising the prices does not solve anything. Adjust your personal schedule and get there in the morning or after 7pm and there's never ever a problem. Prairie Life is so expensive and so crowded with kids standing around (for example), and their equipment is not nearly as new or as good as at Accel.
I think the staff does not walk around and help people for the same reason that folks don't like it when they are shopping and a worker approaches them and asks if they want help. If YOU want help, go ask. They are more than willing to help you- I think you would probably complain the other direction if someone was always keeping their eye on you.
They are there to man the desk, not to personal train.
If you want a personal trainer, hire one-- or suggest to the owner that there should be a roving trainer on duty at all times that the PATRONS can ASK QUESIONS TO. Yes, as a patron of the club, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILTY to approach the person and ask questions. Stop complaining and take control of the situation.

I really can't believe this person. Every gym is full of resolutioners. That's the way it is. RE-arrange your schedule and go after 7pm. You can do it- you can do anything you set your mind to, or agree to with your family...I really can't believe what I am hearing. This is a nice gym, nice equipment. There is no help, there is not supposed to be- there never is in any gym. You have to pay extra for that- It's called Personal Training...If you need a spot, use the Smith Machine and a little bit of creativity.
