SW has a very simple business plan and it works for them very well but don't try to put the entire blame on the other carrier fiancial woes purely on bad managment or employees. They operate with many, many more variables that effect their bottom line. The potential benefits are huge but so are the risks.
When is the last time any airline (other than "golden child" SW) had assets GIVEN to them by another competitor? Is SW going to 'donate' slots to another competitor as a result of the AirTran acquisition? Try working on a level playing field sometime and then see how things work out for you.
