This article reads like War On Drugs propoganda.

Claiming our "permissive environment" is inviting organized crime to grow pot.

The War On Drugs is inviting organized crime into the industry. If the DEA would lay off pot, organized crime couldn't make any money at it.

Prohibition doesn't work. You can restrict where the drug is used - and probably should with something like pot which you smoke - but to ban it altogether is just turning over the profits to criminals.

Now I know where I'm relocating to.

Demand for marijuana is very high (roughly 14 million Americans smoke it regularly).

When a highly demanded product is illegal to sell or possess, it becomes high risk - going to jail SUCKS.

When someone sells an illegal product, they can not go to the police when they have a problem. So instead they turn to guns and violence to solve their issues.

When there is high risk, high violence, and high demand, high prices are justified.

THIS IS WHY THE DRUG WAR WILL NEVER BE "WON". IT MUST BE ENDED AS A WAY TO STOP THE VIOLENCE AND CRIME. ONLY THEN CAN REAL DRUG ABUSE BE LOOKED AT BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH.

Then why is it illegal? If you thought the tobacco industry had a stranglehold on our government take a look at the liquor and beer industry; they owns us.
Once bribery was legalized by allowing corporate campaign contributions and full-court press lobbying, any foolishness is possible.

Illegal pot just gives the drug dealers a stepping stone to introduce our youngsters to cocaine, crack, heroine,etc. Cigarettes. Legal,but much more harmful than pot. Yet, fewer are smoking them because they are educated about the risks of smoking. If they were illegal you'd see many more people smoking them. Legalize pot and educate people of the possible hazards,if any,of smoking pot. You'd no doubt see pot usage decrease as well as other more harmful drug usage.
