The troopers are punks, plain and simple. The majority are fresh out of the academy where they are taught TICKET TICKET TICKET! Forget law enforcement, the name of the game is revenue enhancement. That's how you get back to where the action is.

Personally, I feel that every resident of this area should look up their rights during a traffic stop at the American Civil Liberties site.(www.aclu.com) It is an absolute eye-opener as to what the bastards are getting away with.

this is not about the Scharpf incident. that was over six years ago and has nothing to do with why there is so many police out now. I resent you saying that. Our town is loaded with cops because they have nothing else better to do than botter people from a poor town, and yes they pull you over for anything and everything. I have also been pulled over and my son is forever being followed he goes the speed limit. the other day he had my sporty car and was followed from the mill road to this side of crown point. and sweet you don't know what your talking about why would they be pulling people over for what happened six years ago in crown point that does not make any sense to me could you explain? I would like to here the logic behind your statement please.

I got a good one for you all...i got pulled over one morning approx 3am because the trooper noticed that my window was down a little bit like maybe 4 or 5 inches. Yes this was in november and it was kinda cool but i like the fresh air comming in to help keep me awake. They thought i might of been smoking a "left handed cigarette" and of course thought i might of been drinking which i wasn't, i had just got done work. As a businees owner here in the town of moriah i feel this is some sort of harassment and say if the local or state law enforcement wants to catch drunks on the road, then set up a road block. Let the drunks come to you, this would save alot of working peoples time and would save on gas in the patrol car from all the running around. I have been through a couple of road blocks recently, one by moriah school and one on the main road between whitney and meacham street but they were both during the day...drunks are usually out at night....this is such a waste of tax dollars

its because most of us are drunk armed rednecks, and just incase we get enough money saved up to be dangerous the cope are there to take it off our hands. but appearently it is ok to spend 80,000.00 on hookers.?

Well, to be honest with you, most of these troopers do view people here as ignorant and they do not like it when you push back. When I am stopped, I refuse to answer their idiotic questions. I will not do the stupid human tricks routine and i only roll the window down far enough to get my license and registration out. Also, I will not give it to them until they tell me exactly why they have stopped me. If you have the stomach for it and can stand the stress (because it does take some balls to stand up to these punks), you can send a message that we're not taking it any more.

OK... here's one for you. I work shiftwork and have terrible insomnia. I don't take meds for it as I'm not comfortable with the idea of screwing around with my brain chemistry. So sometimes when I can't sleep on my days off, I go for drives. Sometimes these are at 1am, 2am, etc... I met a trooper in Westport one night. He was going north, I was going south... doing well within the 35mph speed limit. I didn't think anything of it. I got almost to Stevenson Cemetary Hill when I noticed these headlights coming up FAST. By the time I had gotten to Pilfershire Road, the car was right on my bumper. My car was a standard shift model so that meant that i could control my speed without hitting the brakes. I knew it was a trooper 6 inches off my bumper, so i decided to be a bit rude.
At the top of the hill, where 55 goes to 45, I downshifted from 4th into 3rd. The trooper almost rearends me... So we go 45 down the hill til the village limits where it goes to 30mph... I go from 3rd down into 2nd. Again the trooper almost piles into. I never once touched the brakes.:o)
So at the beach road, he pulls me over... I start pushing back. He no sooner gets up to the car and fire at him, "You better have ID, because I can't believe that they'd let someone so stupid be a cop!"
...and it went from there.
I didn't get a ticket :) and I haven't been stopped at 3am since!
Push back, but push back intelligently.

The growing number of Troopers is because of the new safety building in Lewis. The Adirondacks is a training ground for Troopers coming out of the academy. Most are only here for 6 months and require an evaluation to move to their next post. This evaluation is based in part by quota (number of tickets). I have never had a problem with any Troopers. There new and just trying to do their job for the most part. I know it’s an inconvenience at times, but they are here to stay and we should be thankful we have them.

yeah we should be thankful of them pulling us over for snow on our bumpers after a snowstorm or the age old "licence plate light out" but when you look at it its working then they sAy it must be a short. what about the statement "if you want to get a dwi go to moriah on fri or sat night" let me tell you a little something a bout the blue wall, they never forget! i should know im a member as well. we have police force in moriah, crown point does not, e-town does not, lewis does not, westport does not, let them hang there. i dont see a lot of troopers in ti? im not stupid, patrols through town are ok but not three or four cars hanging around all day are a terrible shame

Deman00......i am going to have to disagree with you...

Innocent people are getting stopped for nothing.

I know someone a few weeks ago getting a DWI after 2 glasses of wine....was he going to hurt anyone? I don't think so.

3 days ago there were 2 girls at the boat launch in port henry in the same car.....2 troop cars pulled up next to the car they were in...both sides....just to see what they were doing.

Ok look all I did was answer the question that was asked. So why go off on me? I wasn’t pro or anti, I just gave an explanation. I’m sorry I tried to help. Either way have a nice day.

The troopers' job is apparently self-defining. Stopping someone for having a window down a crack or driving 40 in a 55 mph zone is not a valid stop. Those things are legal. What we have is the new Adirondack Police State. What will end it is either legislation or litigation. Citizen involvement or complaints will get only verbal assurances. No action will be taken.

if there are so many troopers around the town of moriah why are tax payers still having to support a useless town police department?

It doesn't matter if you had 2 glasses of wine, if you are above .08 you get a DWI simple as that. This person either is very small, or drank more than just two glasses to get a DWI, think about it..

We need the NYS Police in our entire area - "Case in Point" - the robbery of the Pharmacy in Mineville. It is a miracle that neighbors reacted so quickly and probably saved the pharmicist and his wife from more harm or even death. I believe that this is just a precursor of what will follow due to the economic situation and people becoming desperate. If you are not breaking the law; you will have nothing to fear.
