I went to the bowling alley in etown over the weekend. It was the first time I had been there in about 7 years.... WOW what happend to that place? We were in the "party" room... the room that once had pool tables in it and the ceiling really looked like it might just fall down on top of us. Everything was FILTHY! The bathrooms were plain scary! Why did they get rid of the pool tables? The whole place is about to fall down! Not to mention along time ago they had good bowling alley food .. like nachos, pizza, cheese fries cheese sticks and so on... now you have to choose from VERY small menu. Also the service wasn't very nice either... the lady acted like I was a huge bother to her for buying a drink ... I cant figure out what happend... used to be a nice place to go...

Yes I agree. I hadn't been in about 11yrs, back when I knew the owners. Then I went to a party there a few weeks ago. I was surprised too see the pool tables gone. The whole place had me in a state of shock!!!

A lot like the theater in E-town. Run down and disgusting, but it is all we have, so why spend money to improve it?

I dont really understand how they are still open... I didnt explain the ceiling very well in my last post... but there was huge water spots on it and the ceiling tiles were hanging down... just barely on... you would think that would be hazardous and unsafe and building inspectors would shut them down... then maybe someone could buy it and put money into it to make it a good place again

Well then maybe you should open up your own bowling alley.

They are still making money the shape it is in. That is why they have not improved it. Maybe complain to building insector or health inspector?

Hey World Champ you said back when u knew the people who owned it....the same people still own it. The Taylor family has alway owned it and still do. I do agree that is in need of updates and redecorating but like they said as of now it has no competition and doing fine business wise so why waste the money is how they look at it i guess! Wish there was more options of family outing in Etown but until then....Etown Lanes is about it!
|
||||
yes I know they do still own it, but im not in touch with them like I used too be & not really close to them any more. That's why I said used to know. |

A group out of Cincinatti was in Elizabethtown looking to Open a new Bowling alley, but it is so hush hush I don't know anymore than that.

Do the Taylor's still run the bowling alley in Etown?
|
||||

Sorry strike that, just now re-read above comments...duh.. i thought they still ran it, wonder why they have let it run in the ground?

You know there are many people like yourselves that sit around and cry but don't patronize businesses. When you do in 10 to 20 years you want the best at 1/2 price and then still complain. You people have no clue of the cost of opperation. If there was so much money in the bowling and theater business don't you think there would be more in our area?
Yes I know the Taylors very well have for 40 years they have kept that bowling center going for about 50 years and done a good job of it. It is very clean and the center runs very well mechcanicaly. Yes it is very old but very sound. I know they own about 30 acres out there worth several million and are trying to sell some of it to build a NEW Center and have been for about 2 years now. The price of a New Bowling Center I'm sure is in the millions. Thats what I know..End of story |

I hope the Taylors can do so....they really are good people...I been bowling there for almost 20 years. I hope they can open there new center....maybe even just remodel there old center...hell I remember when they had cigarette vending machines in there, pool tables and an arcade and everything was in the back. Its not the same anymore tho. I just hope they can get everything going. I definitely wont mind paying 450 to 6 bucks a game if they get us a professional center. I really wish that the Taylors still worked the counter like they used to as well...I dont hardly see them anymore. Anyhow...lets make the best of what we got people. If its not good enough....Ft Knox has a good bowling alley and you can always go to Bardstown...which in my opinon has a good alley....or there is Louisville....which has a bunch of Excellent bowling alleys. If anyone wants to open another bowling alley up here in E-town...I wouldnt mind helping out with it. Other than that I like Etown Lanes.

Yes, along time ago the bowling alley was a nice place to go. Whats so sad is that there is nothing to do in Hardin County so with what little there is to do, so many people do those things that the busineses need to keep up with proper maintaince. Within Hardin County we have one bowling alley, one skating ring, and two theaters. The theaters are not so bad, the one in Radcliff is alot better since it has been remodled. But unfortunatly the Skating ring, and the Bowling alley have just fell apart. I think that alot to do with the bowling alley is that along time ago Mr. Taylor ran it and was actually there and kept things in line. Now it has been passed down to be taken care of by other family members and employees that just don't care. They want to make the money but do not care about the customers, their satisfaction or the condition of the facility. It is very sad because Mr. Taylor is a very nice man, with a good heart and worked very hard once apon a time for someone else to no care. Alot of it is also on the community because if we do not take care of the resources of recreation that we have the who wants to pay to maintain it so that we can mess it up again. I remember going to those places and seeing people throw garbage and soda on the floor on purpose and write on the walls in the bathrooms like it was cool and break things intentionally. Who wants to pay to fix those things thinking that the next person is going to come in and destroy it again???

I'd say as long as they refinish the lanes and keep the dips out, that's about all the remodelling one needs. After all, the alley is the important part.

It is a dump that needs to be bull dozed along with every building anywhere around it. And for good measure throw in the movie palace too. E-town needs an investor to come in here and build some nice places to put both of those places out of business, all we have right now is crap!
