I attended a basketball game last night (2/26/09) at Plainview High School. I was there only scouting the game and did not have any stake in the game nor did I care who won the game AT ALL. So, please do not take my comments as bias in any way. I have never in my life seen a worse display of sportsmanship by a crowd of fans as I witnessed by the Plainview fans last night. I was completely embarassed for that school and the community and I do not live there or anywhere close to there. The fans from Plainview were the most obnoxious and disrespectful fans I have ever seen and I have been to MANY basketball games over the past 30 years. Do not get me wrong, I am all for team spirt and support for your team but what I witnessed was totally out of line and was the most lack of sportsmanship ever. The sad thing about the whole situation was that the girls from Plainview that were actually playing teh game were model players. They played the game with dignity, respect, sportsmanship, pride and heart. I commend them for that and for the way the played their hearts out against a very tough team in Calvin High School. The sad part is that the way the fans from Plainview acted, completely took away from how well their team played and acted. It was very ironic that as I sat there watching in disbelief at the Plainview fans, I looked straight in front of me on the other side of the gym directly above the scorers table where a huge sign was hanging. I do not remember every word of what the sign said, but it mainly reminded the Plainview fans that their actions was a direct reflection of their school. Obviously most of them did not read this sign and I truely hope that the way the fans from Plainview High School acted is not a reflection of their school at Plainview.

I do have to also commend the team from Calvin for staying tough and focused under the toughest playing situation that I have ever witnessed. It was a true picture of your heart.

The game was an outstanding game by two tough teams with totally different styles. Other than some very weak officiating, it was one of the best games I have seen in long long time. It is a shame that the fans from Plainview took away from a great game like this the.
