I haven't read the article, and I'd probably agree with it, but Bowden's ad hominem attacks read like those of a 10 year old.

I went to the National Geo website and read the article. It paints a depressing picture. I have to say, the article probably isn't going to help improve the tourism industry in ND. Which raises the question, "Does North Dakota have a tourism industry?"

The federal government earlier admitted that physical and sexual abuse in the schools was rampant. Many students recall being beaten for speaking their native languages and losing touch with their parents and customs. The judge was alerted after some of the jurors were observed writing their notes vertically, rather than horizontally. That leaves time for a new diplomatic push. But GOP officials left without it.

NoDak has sent nothing but ultra libral Dems to Washington DC for ever, so don't try to blame all this on the GOP!! The big city liberals don't have a clue as to what the midwest (MN, SD, ND and IA) do, or are!!

Bridget Bardo was fined in France for publishing her unpopular opinion to president Sarkozy. In America the 1st admendment still protects free speech and I don't understand how this is news. Maybe we should talk about all the oil in North Dakota.

To make everybody happy, National Geographic should have included photos of topless female natives of the state. That drew NG a lot of new "readers" when I was a boy, and these days it might filter off some of the tourists otherwise bound for South Dakota.

Sounds like National Geographic is going to continue losing what readers it still has. North Dakota is a beautiful and historical state.

"North Dakota is a rarely visited state and surely one of the loveliest and most moving."
Perhaps previous commenters did not read the entire article. The line above is a direct quote from the article. The article is beautifully and respectfully written, giving the land almost more due than it deserves. This story is an elegy to the state where I was born. A few years ago, USA Today coined the phrase "economic thoroughbreds" to describe our children who are well-educated, industrious and honest. There are tender stories about people everywhere. But in North Dakota, where people actually knew and cared about their neighbors, you are more likely than not to get many wonderful tales that are remembered by people willing to share them. As for what North Dakota actually has ... the Williston Basin, the richest new oil discovery in the lower 48. You will be showing us the money for some time to come.

I would rather live here in North Dakota than any other state. No Grid Lock, friendly citizens, neighbor helping neighbor. Lots of open space, clean air. The Medora Music, Thoedore Roosevelt National Park, The Big One in Minot and many more attractions. After spending 30 years in many BIG cities, Denver, Dallas, Los Angeles, Cape Kennedy,Portland, Boston, Chicago - I will take a North Dakota over any of them. I at least have a chance a a natural and peaceful death in North Dakota.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Virgo

Enjoy today's lively atmosphere. It's great for throwing yourself into social settings and mixing with as many people as possible. You'll feel no hint of shyness or nerves, even if you're facing a room full of strangers. If things have been tricky with a near neighbor or close relative recently, this is a good day to sort things out even if you have to be quite tough in the process.
