Mr. Kanczer, why not devote your energy to learning the proper use of contractions? "Want's" is not a word.

These comment spaces attract grafitti from despicable hate-mongers in gross excess of serious commentators. Close these spaces, and let the scum write on walls and get put in jail for it.

Expulsion hearing with the school board??? Why bother? The kid deserves to be expelled and put away for 10 years. I feel sorry for the poor woman. Teachers should not have to put their lives on the line everytime they go to work. It should not be a dangerous job, yet with the disturbed and deranged kids that are out there, it's become just that.

I don't care what color the kid is. He's 16 years old--he's old enough to know right from wrong.

And the school board has a "pending" expulsion hearing??? Give me a break--he should have been automatically expelled for what he did, and his a** needs to be booked on assault charges.

Expulsion should be a given!!! Why is it "pending" in a situation like this?

But he really SHOULD be in jail.

I hate when people make comments like this. stupid. are you even a teacher? Not like Urbana doesn't have problems of its own. We all know that Chicago's urban problems are moving outside the city..........

I'm pretty sure it is "pending" because this is how the law works in this country. Yes, judging by this article it is pretty apparent that the kid needs to be expelled, but if we made it standard to just start dismissing kids without a hearing then we are treading on a very slipper slope. Calm down people.

pending? as in lets talk about this? you people ( the school board) are amazing to even take time to discuss any option after such a horrid crime committed on this teacher..what is there to discuss concerning what to do with this 16 yr old who damn well knew exactly what he had planned from the time he picked up that knife and entered that school. KEEP HIM IN JAIL

Seems to me that now is the time for an eye for an eye. Then the little scum should do some time in cook county jail- maybe about 20 yrs will do. I know, it sounds harsh, but he knows right from wrong. Don't tell me he's a victim - and don't get me started on the expulsion hearing! Due process? Please!

The kid sounds like a w*a*c*k job. This poor lady lost her vision and for what?
Someone is gonna come up with some silly reason why it was ok for this pathetic excuse for a human beings behavior.Oh yeah, and can't wait to hear his moms 2 minute sound bite 'bout her son being a good kid. What is the world coming to?

Tell you what, if this was done by a white kid I'll spend some extra time learning how to use contractions properly. Deal??
I'd make the same comment if he was white, green, orange - color is not the issue. The little angel blinded his teacher. Out with his eyes, kinda like the mid-east, they catch you stealing, hack that hand off!

Can't the left-wing liberals find a way to blame this on Charlton Heston, Tom Selleck and the National Rifle Association ?

My condolences to the teacher/victim.

She is a very nice teacher. I don't see how anyone could have done this to her. She was my study hall teacher and she always let us talk and helped us with our work.

This is an absolutely terrible thing that happened to that teacher. I'm sure the expulsion hearing will last all of 1 minute... I'm not affiliated with the education system in any way, but there are procedures in place to ensure things are done in the proper manner, lest the school district be sued for being arbitrary and capricious! I hope the teacher will recover quickly, but her life will never be the same.
