You're an idiot. Get the hell off this site and take your stupid trash-talk elsewhere. Why don't you write it on the bathroom stall door like every other f-ing moron like you? Try offering an actual thought-provoking comment next time insdtead of advertising your idiocy and insecurities.

I heard that the guy watching the desk and signing in visitors sometimes sleeps. True or rumor?
All of the people currently assigned to sign in visitors are very diligent in their task. Check out the U-46 website regarding V-soft, a new visitor security system EHS is piloting.

Mom Of Two, Please help to get these things addressed publicly. Any positive thing EHS is doing, or U-46 for that matter needs to be out in the open. The schools says classrooms are randomly wanded, yet juniors and seniors report never having seen this. Let's get this settled with the community at large. It is very important.

well, there was a school wide sweep today. we got wanded and they checked our backpacks, but I suspect these sort of things will taper off by the end to the semester.

They've printed the name of the attacker. Does anybody know anything about him?

If this situation is handled the way most of our situations are handled the teachers will be the last to hear any concrete information or directives regarding this incident. I imagine a few will call in sick unable/unwilling to face our workplace.I imagine some parents will keep their kids home as well. Administration will likely request the presence of all teachers in the hallways during passing periods and might give us an update on this teacher's condition and future(although the papers provide more correct info. than U-46). Perhaps they'll decide to wand every kid entering the building to prevent any retaliatory or ethnic incidents in case students perceive this as a gang/ethnicity-related incident....or maybe they'll play ostrich, say nothing, and hope all gossip, anger, and frustration will just go away. As for me, my classroom door will stay locked all day; I will insist on proper behavior, language, dress-code adherence, and on-task behavior as always;no student will be allowed to go to their locker or to the bathroom; and I will watch for students and faculty members having difficulty wrapping their minds around such a despicable, hateful crime and I will offer them my support and shoulder. I will leave the building as soon as allowed, glad to be away from there and counting the days(years, unfortunately) till retirement.
Can you all put letters just requiring a signature to be forwarded to John H....the new Dir. of Dist. Security with copies to the union and BOE with a note to go to the press, asking for full body metal detectors to be installed at the main entrances to the high schools, to begin with. If letters went to all of the teachers and requested to be returned to the High School Union Rep. for photocopying (at the office machine) and forwarding, then no one teacher, would be getting in trouble. Gosh, how can we be in fear of reprisal for asking to be safe from stabbing. Were you aware that Mr. Taylor was stabbed at EHS in the 70's on the steps of the old school? Mary Pat Hirshberg and Gordon Whiting should be able to verify that for you. so, this isn't the first EHS staff stabbing. School Prin. Chester Alexander was jumped by a student in the caf. Student was on top of him and staff pulled the kid off. Racial unrest days. We saw metal detectors as a solution then. District has been too cheap to spend the money to effectively put another barrier in the path of violent attacks on kids and staff. Good luck. EHS is a great school and you are fortunate to work with the fine kids and staff there.

I just wanna break my piece off because i've had enough of the BS that's written in the paper and the rumors. I was in the building during the attack. The kid sat right behind me in my geometry class. He was pretty smart and consistent with his homework. He was always quiet and he'd play alot of chess. My freshman year at my english class he had told me he had suicidal thoughts, i didn't take him seriously. He was more of a loner. He was half white and half mexican, that's all you guys seem to care about.
As for some rumors, i have never been wanded down at Elgin High there's no metal detectors at the Elgin High entrances. Ms. Gilbert did not lose her eye she lost her vision in it. The knife did not get stuck in her skull. Just clearing some stuff up.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Taurus

Be careful if you're supposed to be saving money, because it's likely to fly through your fingers in no time at all today. You're open to all sorts of delicious impulses now, such as splashing out your hard- earned cash on little treats or big purchases. Indulgence is the key here, and you'll also want to push the boat out if you're going to a restaurant for a meal. You'll work your way through the menu, regardless of the cost.
