hmmmm.... I seem to recall people from this community lobbying to get approval for the spaceport so that it could enhance their town by being in their backyard. Now that we are building it, they don't want the trucks to come through?
Be happy that something huge is coming to your crappy little desert dump. Did you think you would either get the spaceport or consequences but not both?
You have your spaceport, now you get to also have the consequences of a huge construction project. Deal with it.
Let me remind everyone that there were a reported "handful" of protesters. Handful means around 5, right? Maybe four or maybe six. Moreover one of the 'handful' advertised the call to protest in both Sierra County papers, stating that this protest would go on indefinitely. Yet they only lasted one day. This topix thread has many more commentators than there were protesters and has lasted longer than the protest. So, in fact most of the folks in Sierra County (minus a handful) are DEALING WITH IT!

Advice for noyoga- if you want to participate in intelligent discourse and want folks to respect your opinion you need to leave out the stupid, sensational crap. Not that topix is known for intelligent discourse.

The spaceport is a tax money boondoggle. It will cost several hundred million while education and other basic governmental services are cut. To add insult to injury, this taxpayer funded airport for the future subdivision for the rich at Engle where the RailRunner will go is unnecessarily sending a Blitzkrieg of noisy heavily loaded trucks through downtown T or C vibrating the old masonry downtown to death while endangering the aged population negotiating their way day to day. There is gravel in the Llano estacado but not "the right gravel" owned by "the right pit". The protesters voice should be heard. Future governor Diane Denish, who lives in the neighboring village,Hillsborough, should look into the corruption in the means as in the end. Her honor should make a determination then resolve the issue showing that she will be resolute in her stated stand for right over might. Go Ravens.

T or C isn't as crime ridden and murderous as you think. Check the county stats, there might have been two murders this year in Sierra county. In Albuquerque? What...one a week? Now we DO have a big meth problem....but so does every outlying Abq community. These protesters are much like the Montano bridge protestors. They're trust funders with nothing better to do than get their name in the paper and obtain noteriety in any form. But be honest...you guys like that bridge now that it's in eh?

Allow me to quote Wake UP from the Living in T or C thread....Folks, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to observe the corruption in T or C - from gas price fixing to back room deals going on throughout City operations. Why do you think they hired Jaime? He's perfect! Now, they have a "front" (or should we say "back room") man.

For those supporting or seeking justice - forget it - at the local level. Even District Court has "discretion" which means Jaime, Rubin, and other insiders like the Green Machine, including Bryan, all get their way....for now.

And how about gay boy, news editor, Pudilla, getting off after HITTING a woman with his car AND telling the police officer he HAD been drinking alcohol? The Herald Newspaper is completely corrupt, AND is so thick in it that some people believe what they report...HA! They USE their newspaper to promote a strange version of reality - and to protect "certain" people.

Newcomers beware. The sleezy, yet people-pleasing appearing crowd, is only out for one thing: doing it THEIR way (under the radar and capitalizing to make money)

THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE PROTESTING.....the CORRUPTION

WalkAMile,
What are you talking about? Jaime resigned a month ago. Padilla drove someone away from being assaulted (by the person hit, perhaps during a lunge for the car occupant already injured from being assaulted)and went directly to the police station. It happened outside of a tavern, so being honest and saying he had had a drink (or more if that was the case) is being honest. That's more than your post is doing with some outdated commentary about Jaime getting his way for now. It sounds like you're out of touch, out of town, or out to lunch. Maybe you can do better in the future in providing worthwhile opinions?

The corruption still remains, huh? You're right about that, but looking in the wrong place. With a name like Truth or Consequences, you'd think truth might mean something, yet I see lie after lie coming from those doing the finger pointing. You did it here. Kim Audette did it on the news and immediately lost all credibility in doing so. Other protesters did it in the newspaper and they too lost any credibility they might have had. What audacity you have to carry on about Carlos telling the truth about having had a drink. You are corrupt. Let's look it up so we know what I said: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/corrup...
Guilty of dishonest practices. Check
Lacking integrity. Check
Made inferior by alteration, as a test (or words about a protest)
infected, tainted, putrid... well people who care about truth certainly view those who lie as morally infected, tainted, and somewhat putrid even with a clean bill of physical health.

I will revise my comment somewhat. You may be looking in some of the right places because there is indeed corruption. My beef -- and it is HUGE -- is that lying to expose corruption is a farce. And I am totally and thoroughly disgusted with the so called "corruption exposers" lying. When I say Kim lost all credibility with me the moment I saw the news broadcast, I'm saying a sad truth. It is absolutely impossible to lend credence to what anyone says once they have lied to make their stance appear good. If the truth isn't good enough, silence is a fine option. It is corrupt to lie and we all know that the protest shopping was a planned protest. Ron Fenn sent the email around. Kim told people via word of mouth. Lily was not an innocent bystander. And Carlos probably did the right thing in removing an injured person from a brawl, then heading for the police station and being honest about whether or not he had had a drink. That he did that leads me to believe he and the Herald are not liars trying to cover up corruption like you say. Truth comes out and in the case of the truck protest, those willing to speak truth were in short supply while those willing to lie showed themselves to be willing to lie. Personally, I don't care for that since informed citizens actually do need real facts. If someone is claiming to present those facts in court, the press, or elsewhere, their responsibility is to do it truthfully.

From What I've seen, most Sierra County residents go about their business, don't seem to mind one company owning 95% of the gas stations in town, or the state police and now the DOT handing out tickets by the bucketfull to folks that break the law.

We're just trying to make a living, and in the case of the fat cats, enjoy their retirement

What I happen to mind is that these small numbers of people have now killed a second major investment deal for me in this town, since my investors research with great care and have recently pulled off a new development deal as "too risky".

So don't expect to see the Bowling alley reopening ANYTIME in the near future, or have any of the acreage I own in town developed into new tourism spots. I'll be putting storage in..the one investor I have left seems to think that's safe enough.

Oh yeah, don't expect any new hotel rooms to be built in T or C, we'll be looking for facilities development opportunities near the spaceport once it starts nearing operational status.

Sierra county will remain a place for boat storage and hud housing, next time you're in Las Vegas Nevada, take a trip a quarter mile off the strip..T or C will NEVER get better then that. The new "Strip" will be adjacent to the spaceport facility, with a straight line exit to the interstate.

So these to so called "CAVE" people..good job..once the next couple of graduating classes leave town, you'll see an influx of foreign visa holding engineers living on the spaceport property.

T or C will be looking like Vaugn in a few more years.

Right on, Enough already.

Geez, you T or C people seem affected by the water.

I like the "consequences" part. I'm sure there's more coming.

The Herald, local newspaper of T or C had this as front page news. Here is a link to the Herald. They do not post archives on the internet.

Yes, one or two people were arrested for something, possibly impeding the flow of traffic. What I could discern from the photo and a portion of the story, the woman who walked out into the path of a 18 wheeler loaded with gravel (big trucks weigh 80K pounds when fully loaded) at a crosswalk (motorists are supposed to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks) and it appeared that she paused momentarily while walking her doggie to pose and smile for the camera person.

I looked very carefully at the photo, and while noticing her smile, she also had that far away look in her eyes.

One would have to say of the PROTESTERS that they are affiliated with the CAP movement.

While some of this may seem comical, it could have resulted in a serious injury or even death. Most people, at least ones with a brain, do not walk out in front of a 18 wheeler and expect them to stop on a dime. In other words, this woman could have paid the ultimate price for PROTESTING. I don't think that the truck driver was laughing about it either.

If anyone has ever seen protesters, ones with brains, they're usually carrying signs, and step out near moving traffic to gain attention, they normally do not step in front of a moving vehicle.

People of Sierra County voted FOR the 1/2% sales tax increase to help fund the Spaceport, which to me means that most or the majority of citizens are FOR PROGRESS.
