Why does Northern New Mexico continue to elect the same sleaze bags over and over? No wonder our state ranks at the bottom year after year.

He "thinks" he told them not to take any of his property? Doesn't he know? These quotes sure amplify my already healthy disdain for our NM politicians. Time for eminent domain to kick in. The State has no problem taking other people's property for their projects. This case shouldn't be any different assuming corruption, cronyism and political reprisals aren't involved. And why would we think that? Lujan shouldn't be any different.

"I think that I suggested that they wouldn't take any of my property," he said Wednesday. "I didn't feel they needed to take any of my property." Yes Speaker Lujan, because you are an expert in highway engineering. He should be happy. This waste of a project is being put forth by his long time chum - Big Bill. GRIP anyone? Has anyone seen this project? Where the hell are those lanes going anyway? It looks like they are turning 84/285 into the Autobahn!

I love this discussion! Ben Sr. and Ben Jr. are indeed a disgrace to this community. Jr. with no business in Congress and Sr. laden with the heavy hand of corruption obtained by his stranglehold on the Legislature, but has yet to master the English language. WE NEED TO OUST THESE GUYS! WHEN WILL ANYBODY GET IT?

Why is this man's son northern New Mexico's Congressman? Why do we continue to support and perpetuate such dysfunction? Shouldn't we evolve a little?

cares what lujan "thinks". The DOT should know whether or not they"Need to take lujan's property" so what thinks is irrelevant. And why is is taking so long for the Right of Way to Condem the property? It's never taken this long for any other parcial right of way may need for any other project? What's the deal right of way? Ha? What's the deal?

It would be great if the New Mexican researched how Mr. Speaker obtained the property and for how much. It has long been said that he got it from the late Jake Viarreal for a REALLY low price, portable included. I like the way that his son has his bucket truck parked there to make it seem like it is needed for his business. How about the famous billboard, are his friends in the county trying to do all they can to make sure it stays up? Even though, it was deemed illegal several years ago. I'm sure he, oops, I mean his wife, is still collecting revenue from that too. How sad that property owners that really need their land to live on, don't have the connections or resources to fight for their land that I'm sure is mortgaged. I agree with Joe Schmoe about people getting it. It won't happen though. Ben will be in office until either he decides he doesn't want to be there anymore, or if the Grim Reaper comes calling. Unfortunately, my fellow Northern Democrats continue to vote with blinders on. The only good part is that since this issue is now public information, hopefully he will have to follow the proper legal channels just like you or me would have to. Time will catch up with him eventually. Nothing lasts forever.

We are still in shock knowing that Lujan Jr., is our congressman. He was, hands down, the least qualified candidate and now he is in DC. This highway mess is another reminder that corruption is toxic and far reaching.

I "think" I said Big Ben and Big Bill buried the bodies in that piece of property and are unwilling to have the land unearthed. I think. I also think there's oil there and they don't want DOT around.

Why can't the New Mexican publish a map of the area in question so that we can see who should prevail. Right now I see that the state will always win.

What are you afraid of? What are you waiting for. condem already. The state is already in need of money, and the DOT is wasting more money because of the time their spending of this issue. Their tippy toeing around as if they're scared. Do it already and continue the project like you do every project

The arrogance of Speaker Lujan and his chosen cronies at the NMDOT-- Gary Giron, Lawrence Barreras and Leroy Garcia, is simply astonishing. Lujan and his cronies are doing everything they can to keep his long illegal billboard along the road-- it is still there, by the way. Other people lose their billboards, even the legal ones, but not the great Speaker Lujan. An even bigger ripoff is that he and his NMDOT cronies have arranged to move the building of an interchange from La Puebla, where we needed it for traffic and safety and they have moved it to right next to Lujan's property, where there is no road or intersection crossing the highway at present-- Incredible!! So, Lujan will get a multi-million dollar interchange while we people who live and drive the roads around Arroyo Seco have their lives put at risk while Lujan enriches himself at our expense and safety. The NMDOT sold us on the project saying that we would have a new intersection at La Puebla Road, telling us that it was absolutely needed for traffic flow and our safety. But when Lujan wanted an interchange in the middle of nowhere, where no one lives and there is no cross road or traffic, he gets it. Those of us who live in the area received no notice of this change till it had already happened. Lujan, Giron, Barreras, Garcia and all these thieves need to be thrown in jail.

Well, I guess I'll have to say that I don't think this project is needed. There are two lanes all the way to Espanola, very few accidents and easy access to roads. How many millions of wasted dollars have to go to these foolish projects?

Lujan was out spent by an educated and supposed more qualified don w. 3 to 1 in the primary.. and the PEOPLE voted in Lujan 42% in a crowded field in the general..the real grass roots candidate was Lujan.. Open your eyes.. he is the right person in dc and represents our district demographic..

That Gay, he won because of his daddy, and his daddy being so far up $Bills butt he can tell you what he had for lunch. Arroyo Seco Dem, that info is very interesting as the majority of us didn't know about the new plan in interchange. That is probably why he is holding out so that we taxpayers will have to pay way more than what his gift property from Mr. Viarreal is worth due to the significance of it for the project. Crooked old bastard. But wait, we don't want it any other way because then Luis Atencio and Ben can't pray together in Mr. Atencio's chapel. It should be called the Our Lady of the Greedy Old Men chapel. Your time will come Ben and when it does God will make sure it isn't pretty.

Chucho, don't bet the house on it, as our own raza here in Northern New Mexico goes by last name only and not on qualifications. If anything all the media coverage at least exposes to the people what a corrupt pig Old Man Lujan has become. He must have watched "Wallstreet" and memorized the part where Michael Douglas says, "Greed is Good." He ain't taking it with him though.
