We, the people ... we are the Tea Party. We are voters who have joined our fellow citizens in raising our voices after too many years of silence. We are not a "party" -- we are a state of mind.

We believe that the greatness of our Republic springs from our Constitution, about which Patrick Henry said: "The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government."

We share certain beliefs, such as the need for fiscal responsibility by our elected representatives. We believe our representatives must act within the limits of the Constitution. We believe that markets must be free to choose winners and losers in the marketplace and that government must not try to pick who will succeed and who will fail.

Our goals are to educate our citizens, to provide a forum in which citizens can meet and discuss issues and to motivate citizens to speak out and to participate in the political processes of our Republic. When we assemble, it is done peacefully and within the law. We leave the place where we assemble cleaner than it was when we arrived.

Our detractors have put forth many lies about the Tea Party. We were not founded by the Republican Party. We were not financed by some rich benefactor -- we pay our way from our own pockets. We are not racist. That charge has been leveled over and over and has been proved false every time. We honor the right of every citizen to worship the God of his or her choice or to not worship at all. We love our country and its flag and we pledge allegiance to that flag at every assembly.

We have no "party line," no central governing body, no hierarchy, no central leader. We are not organized, we do not have "rules" or membership requirements. Anyone can attend our gatherings.

Who are we? We are your family, your neighbors, your friends and people of every color, creed, national origin, political affiliation, age, sex and station in life.

Who are we? We are you!

Each and every Tea Party member I have met has been obnoxious and terribly uninformed. They are, by a large majority, racists and xenophobic. It's like they discovered a new, icky religion and who cares about facts or logic.
