The photograph of the firefighter giving oxygen to the ferret is terrific. I think this photo needs to go into the record book as the El Paso Times photo of the year. Great job to the photographer and to EPFD for their dedication to saving lives...including pets! It's heart-warming to see people that will go the extra mile.

Were people living within the area able to see the fire? Lol, no name do you live in the area?

The news story is a 5good reminder to check your wiring and electrical outlets to be safe.

I'm the sister of Spc Edwin Collazo!!! The fire was not caused by a over heated electrical wire. The fire was cause by a Shortage!!! If you are going to report the news...GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!! This fire was caused because the house was old and there was NOTHING my brother and sister-in-law could have done to prevent this.

I just want to say Thank You to all the people that have gone out of their way to help my brother since the family is so spread out. Also...I want to say Thank You God for waking Nadine up!! They might have lost everything in the fire...but they are all healthy and alive!!! Which that is the most important thing!!!

Michelle wow is that really you? Your ignorance is showing hon'. "The house was old [...]"?! I guess every old house should magically catch on fire just because there are no outlets overloaded?

The reporter should get her facts straight before she reports the news!!! The house was old and even the fireman said that it was caused because of bad wiring. Thats says it all!!!

The house is not that old. The Cooperstown development area is new compared to most areas of town. I thought he was a soldier until I saw a tattoo on his neck. You can tell he must me from Baton Rouge or something. Plus he broke local city ordnances by havinsg to many pets. I will call his commander. I bet he is an Armor Soldier and not an Air Defender. What do you expect when the army lowers standards.

2 also, plus two rotations in Saudi. 23 1/2 years of serving the army. That does not excusing him of breaking local laws by having too many pets. Also that tattoo thing. He will probably get a DUI before the year is over. I know the type

All the houses in the 10900 block of Yogi Berra were built in 1987. Source El Paso CAD. Not old at all.
The fire was caused by an overheated extension cord connected to a heater in the garage, Concha said. Total damage was estimated at $45,000. He said the home's structure wasn't damaged.
