'El Chuco ugly' sales to aid Candlelighters

Noone outside a population segment in El Paso knows what "El Chuco" means, what a waste of money and effort that the shirts didn't capitalize on the simple mainstream idea- El Paso, TX - home of the ugliest guys in the country. As Judge Judy says, Beauty Fades, Dumb is Forever. Good luck with those t-shirts men!

Wow! Candlelighters will be getting millions on this one because all El Pasoans are FUGLY!

I guess El Paso men are also dumb. Only locals know what "El Chuco" is. Therefore, you just severely limited the amount of sales. Something like, "El Paso Men - Voted ugliest in the nation", would have given yoy a broader market.

Who cares... I'm ordering one... Call me Dumb and ugly... But Kids with Cancer is no Joke! Don't hate, DONATE! Peace and Love to all!

Worst idea ever. Leave it to El Paso and its low lives to capitalize on something that should be more of an embarassment to the city. The stats they used to declare El Paso men ugly were body weight, number of gyms, erotica sales, and level of education. This should motivate people to make positive life changes to improve their health and get an education.
Looked like El Paso was going in the right direction but this little fiasco derails positive changes that were going on. Who'd want to visit a city full of "ugly" men? Get real.

Working with cancer patients is very fulfilling. As we all know people with cancer lose their hair and don't feel too good about themselves at times. It's insensitive for parents who have children with cancer to receive proceeds from apparel that pokes fun at El Paso's so called ugliness. I would not dare to put this kind of clothing on my child. If you're going to raise funds for children with cancer don't degrade the cause. You would raise more money for this cause if you made something that everyone could wear including children with cancer and their family members.

I lived in El Paso for years and never knew El Chuco was El Paso. Good luck Candlelighters.

True. I only found out that El Paso was nicknamed "El Chuco" after watching "Gangland" about the Aztecas in El Paso.

You must have been living under a rock to not know that El Paso is "El Chuco". How sad. This sounds like a SCAM.. even more when Mancera is one of the organizers. Donate directly to the Candlelighters don't make these crooks any money.

Back in the Pachuco era...(look it up) people used to travel a lot between LA en El Paso(just like they still od now), and everyone used to say they were going pal'chuco. Thus, El Paso got that name. This is not degrading the Candlelighters or kids with Cancer... It is actually taping into a part/niche of society that probably wouldn't normally donate money to a good cause. Everyone wins, Don't hate, Donate!++Ugly Here! LOL

No, I'm pretty sure that the group Mancera is in is called something different (it has a longer name). Channel 9 did a report on this and said that the editors of the El Paso Times are the ones who designed the shirts. Regardless!! Lets all donate!!
