Mormon colonies in Mexico had the same contract with the Mexican government as the Mennonites. Mexico wanted them for the same reason they wanted the Texas colonists brought to that state by Moses Austin--they were excellent farmers. The Texans, however were required to become Catholics and Mexican citizens. Mexico wanted to avoid the mistakes they made with the Texas colonies. They still wanted the Anglo colonists to develop farming. This time they were exempt Mexican citizenship and military service. None of those born during the time that George Romney lived there were Mexican citizens. However, those exemptions expired after fifty years, and that is the reasons we have many Mormons and Mennonites in this country who once lived in Mexico.

It don't bother me that Romney has Mexican roots. Sure, he's a little odd. Rich boy and such. But, I'd take him over Obammy any day. Hell, I'd vote for Marco Rubio, the Senator from Florida, whose parents are Cuban. Anybody but Obammy.
