I believe the United States of America is quickly losing the battle of being the United States of America. We have taken God out of our country of which it was founded. Now we want to allow people to choose whether to disrespect our nation by not pledging allegiance to it. Many people have died for this country and for our freedom. Why do people who do not wish to honor our country want to live here? We have taken everything our forefathers said and twisted it to what we want it to mean. We allow pornography on television and internet to corrupt people by saying it is unconstitutional if we don't allow this filth. Do you really think this is what our forefathers intended. We allow foul language to be spoken anywhere in public. What about the rights of the people who do not wish to hear such language? We cannot have prayer in our schools. What about the rights of those who wish to pray in school? I am an American and a Christian and I want my rights.

In a world where there is not enough respect, we are sending the message to our children that they do not need to have it. Whether you agree with the nation's policies or not, it is still your country. If one does not have any respect for the country, he/she should at least have enough respect for those that do, by at least standing during the pledge.

As a teacher, if a student does not show respect for others by standing, he/she gets none from me.

Everyone know their first amendment rights, but seem to forget where those rights came from.

I'd love to see them go to Iran or Venezuela and exercise their "rights!"

At lots of sporting events,Americans stand for the Canadian national anthem out of respect. It is a shame they refuse to stand for their own!

Shame on the NM Department of Education. Trying not to "offend" someone is going to be the downfall of our great country. If you don't want to pledge alligience to this great country, then leave it. We need to take pride in our country by standing up when the flag passes by, saying the pledge of alligience, singing the national anthem. If we are afraid to show what our country and its rights mean to us, we will soon lose them.

Daily Horoscope for February 12

Libra

Your values may not be in line with the values of your associates today; don't compromise your beliefs just to fit in. If it means you need to step back from your friendships to gain more objectivity, so be it. It is never wise to follow the crowd, which all to often leads nowhere. To avoid unnecessary tension between you and your friends, politely decline invitations you do not feel comfortable with.
