["Was Abraham Lincoln really a Republican? In name only, perhaps, but not in his heart.
To answer this question, one has to delve into history and use a little imagination. It wasn't until recently that the positions of where the parties stand were defined.
For instance, it is common knowledge that the Republican Party is supported by the rich and by and big corporations, while the Democratic Party has been the stalwart for the poor and for equal rights of the disadvantaged.
President Lincoln was a man of humble upbringing and remained the common people's advocate until his death. He was a courageous emancipator of the most oppressed people in America in modern times.
If he had been a Republican, by today's standards he would have sided with the rich plantation owners, but instead he sought them out and crushed their evil enterprise.
We certainly don't want Mr. Lincoln to roll over in his grave every time he hears that his beloved Republican Party has simply gone to the dogs.
So, in the name of the common people, I am hereupon declaring that Abraham Lincoln is a proud Democrat.
Mr. President, you can now forever rest in peace."]
Abraham Lincoln was a republican by all the standards enumerated by the Republican Party as it was formed in 1856-1860. The problem is the party went from being for the people and civil rights to a party which by definition should not even be call republican but nationalistic. Today's republicans are selfish little azzzzzzz's who wish to have friends who are just monetarily rich and no real morals but a glittering cover proclaiming they are the way and the life which others should be emulating. Their morals are superficial covered by their extreme religious evangelicalism paraded around as being the moral high ground.
