El Paso has some really great people. El Paso has some really bad people. El Paso has a lot of people eating the government cheese (foodstamps, etc). El Paso has true blue hard workers. You only notice all of the negative more because of the high population. I am military and yes, I do want to leave. I feel there is racism (I'm white, wife is white/black) and I feel we are looked at it a not so nice manner. A lot of times I think the locals and the daily commuters from MX are unappreciative of the history of our country as this is the United States, however, I blame all of this on our government. If you notice, it's the public school systems that teach history, the government that issues freebies, the politicians that are slack on illegal immigration and slow as hell on providing legal immigration......GOVERNMENT IS TO BLAME.

It's to bad that you had to experience such prejudice while you are here in El Paso. It didn't use to be that way either, but you also have to consider how some military people perceive El Paso by their stereotyping it prior to their arrival. I will give you some advice, don't worry about those people from Mexico, they have their hearts in Mexico but they have their stomachs in the United States. Their biggest loss is that they don't even bother to try to learn how to speak English, but that's their problem. I have to agree with you because on the home front it is the Government's fault, but the over all picture there is so much hate everywhere not just in El Paso, something is wrong with the whole world if you have taken any notice. I hope it works out for you and your's.

Everyone has differing personal and professional situations, but my assignment to Fort Bliss has been tough on my family, myself, and my career. I would advise anyone, especially those with a family, who may have any other options to consider them carefully. We are very unhappy here and look forward to putting this chapter behind us and moving on as soon as we can.

Benito Suarez wrote: <quoted text>Yes when you get your assignment and Fort Bliss is your destination we feel the pain here in El Paso, so we pray, Dear Lord Please Don't send us any more stereotyping rude disrespecting prejudice people to our friendly safe community of peace loving people. Militants seem to have the worst attitude towards other cultures, here in El Paso we welcome them with open arms, give them military discounts for restaurants, apartment rents, auto repair, free tickets for college games we give them a lot of perks and some of these militants don't even bother to say hello or thank you, instead they spit in our hands. So yes Frank we hope this chapter ends as soon as possible and you and your baggage be gone, make sure to clean up after yourself and don't let the door hit you on the behind on your way out. Good Riddance! are you serious? since I've been here not one person has been nice...I get rude looks everywhere I go, almost been in at least 10 accidents because of people cutting us off or just not paying attention and swerving into our lane almost hitting us. and discounts on rent???? LOL that's funny I've had nothing but problems since I've been in the shitty state. getting $25 tacked onto an already ridiculous rent price for other peoples trash. and I'm not racist and had no previous horrible thoughts about el paso. I was actually very surprised when I got here, how pretty the mountains were and everything but people here are anything but nice. I so very desperately wish I could leave this dump, but due to the military we are unable to leave until 2013 when my husband gets out of the army. and I can finally go see green grass again and a beach

What El Paso needs is a huge beautiful family friendly park on the east side. A park that has big grass areas for soccer, baseball, football, kickball, a running track, walking path, a bbq area; a skate park where kids can hang out to skate board, a designated playground for small kids, a community center that has an aquatic center both indoor and outdoor, areas for indoor/outdoor basketball, volley ball, zumba, etc., and dog parks where dog owners can walk their dogs, one for small dogs and one for large dogs (dog owners have to clean up after their dogs). A place where many outdoor events like concerts could be held and ample parking is available. The grounds would be well kept and maintained and it would have many water fountains and good lighting. It would have everything to accommodate most everyone. A park like Desert Breeze in Las Vegas, NV.

AMOR For Juarez-It's An El Paso Thing Look the Code Inforcement Officers here in El Paso are mexicans living in Juarez crossing the bridge each day to go to their city, state and federal jobs. There is no way that they are going to sight their own people, as a matter of fact the code inforcement people join in with the beaners to trash everything out just like in their own country!

I've been stationed at Ft. Bliss for the past 1 1/2 years and so far I haven't had a problem with the Mexican-American population here. Every once and awhile I'll run into someone that can't speak English fluently, but that's more of a hinderance to what I'm trying to do than anything. Overall, the people have been mostly friendly here from my experience. The only complaint I have is the bad drivers and traffic, but you find that in most cities. There are alot worse places to be stationed out there for sure.

As far as the military wives who feel discriminated against here in El Paso, why not start your own military wives club or womens club and come up with your own activities and get togethers for families, spouses and yourselves. Hold dances, cookouts, etc. Bring in guest speakers to speak to your club and "empower you". Get creative and active. I believe the military is here to stay so make the best of it. I would.

Man this forum seems to talk about all sorts of absurd things other than what I thought it was addressing: people who hate El Paso, especially those in the military who feel out of place where they are the minority, get dirty looks from the people of El Paso (really Juarez transplants)who are mean and rude and can't drive. I'm just trying to help and offer some suggestions and get you to look on the bright side. Hey military wives put yourself in a hispanic military wife's place where husband gets transferred to a base in the south, and being around all anglo or black families who are native to that area. The hispanic wife would feel just as uncomfortable and just as unwelcomed. Living in El Paso especially in the last few years has become overwhelming difficult even to the native El Pasoans both hispanic and white. Not all people here are rude, many have a good heart.
