["I consider City Council's approval of a Downtown baseball stadium an improper decision and an abuse of their authority.

Why should El Paso taxpayers be mired with the multi-million-dollar relocation and construction cost when only a limited number of people will be enriched by this project?

If I were king and did not allow the people to vote on this issue, I would build the baseball stadium on the former Asarco site. Once the area was certified as being clear of contaminants from years of smelting, I would force the people to build a complex anchored by four mini smokestacks.

These stacks would house elevators and winding staircases leading to each seating level. The complex itself would be designed in a historical smelter layout and the staff would wear period work uniforms.

As for the team, they would be called the Smeltertown Sluggers in recognition of the hundreds of people who made Asarco thrive in El Paso.

If only I were king. Daniel Barr Northeast El Paso"]

I agree with Daniel Barr. Clean up the area of ASARCO and put the stadium there or anywhere else other than where the city hall is currently. The cost to tear down the building, redoing all the letter heads and change of address for all the city departments scattered all over downtown. The greatest inconvenience is to the tax payer who has to conduct business in city hall as it is. BY changing locations for all the departments now stationed there the tax payer will have to run from one place to another just to conduct business.
Leave city hall at #2 Civic Center Plaza.!!!!!!!

We need to surround the Mexican Consulate with barbed concertina wire and turrets with .50cal machine guns. That might ensure the consulate people their security and keep out the illegal immigrants from running inside and hiding for LA Migra.

How about we just don't build any stadium and either improve Cohen or dump this stupid idea all together.

We don't need any baseball team. We have the Diablos. We don't need to rip down City Hall just clean up the fools that work there.

I'm surprised to hear you say this because I assumed you were not a fan of the chile farmers and their constant need for more and more water. I had to stop showering for a week earlier this year so that my neighbor could water his plants.

That monstrosity is commonly called "mexican gauche" just like their purple and green buildings with pink trim they seem to relish. If the city will prevent the owners from painting the buildings these awful colors then maybe you will see Alameda and lower Dyer come out of the "barrio" and into the real world.

Be careful what you wish for because the latest trend is to use those chile peppers as a sexual aid. In the hot bestseller, "50 shades of gray" the dominant one sticks one of the said peppers up the backdoor of the submissive in order to spice things up, literally. In the book it led to a mind-blowing encounter but remember the book is fiction. That might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Again I see and read more stuff from dumb El Paso people, it's ludicrous at how many dumb people El Paso has living here.
For one, Asarco os not fit to become a triple AAA location, if that was the case the why not just tear down Cohen Stadium and built it right?
Problem solved? NO!, the Diablo stadium should have never been built in Northeast El Paso from the beginning.
But dumb El Paso people never listen, all they do is complaint about anything like.
Oh! it's raining outside, do you think I'll get wet if I go outside?
Oh! my taxes are to high; I pay so much in taxes now that I have notice I have more room in my refrigerator since I can't afford that much money for beer anymore.
Oh! why do we need a trolley system downtown? it will just mess up the streets that are already over congested with traffic with the millions of people that shop downtown everyday.
Oh! Why do all the Mexicans in El Paso have tattoo's on the necks, and tattoo tear drops on their eyes?
Oh! why does everybody vote democrat in el crapo? I just moved here from Killeen Texas, where we always vote republican.
Oh! Why is El paso so close to Mexico? cant we move the Rio Grande further North?
Oh! is it still raining outside? you think I should buy a rain coat and an umbrella?
Oh! My Taxes just went up again, I went to buy a pack of cigarettes and they charged me 5 cents more from yesterday
Oh! I think I'll move to San Antonio next week where there is more white people, there's way to many of you know whats in El Paso.
Stop your cryin! If it wasn't for us Proud Mexican you wouldn't even know what Mary Jane is! We know your come back will be you don't smoke Mexican weed But at least we are the ones that got you hooked in the first place! So love a Mexican and Thank a Democrat you pinchi Marijuano!

The Diablos we have now are a fake copy of the real thing. The real Diablos moved to Springfield, MO years ago. I can't believe someone is trying to compare unaffiliated independent league with AAA.

Too many people in this town have a small-time mentality & whine about everything but are too afraid to do anything to change it. The league has to WANT to move & will need to approve the relocation of the team. It's a HUGE difference to sell them on a new stadium in a downtown area rather than a former AA stadium that is 23 years old in a part of town that many people never venture to & will still only have the worst theater in town & a Walmart as far as any sort of entertainment district surrounding it.

AAA is small potatoes. We need a real major league team, perhaps the Pirates or Blue Jays who can't make ends meet in their towns. We can build a new stadium for them off of Loop 375 and provide easy access, abundant parking and wholesome family entertainment free from all the loud mouths and ruffians who pollute the air with their smoke.

El Paso is for the Mexican people. We already have the Cobras baseball team and Estadio Benito Juarez. We need a giant flea downtown, a beautiful building for the Mexican Consulate, a Super Silvia's, a huge Norteno Cantina, a huge Beautiful Building for Project Bravo, luxuriuos apartments with refrigerated air conditioning and satillite tv for the Mexican people on public assistance. Also a Super Walmar and some Huge and Beautiful Mexican sculptures like they have in Juarez and Chihuahua! Also we should try and get the National Democratic Partys headquarters to move here and give them a Big and Beautiful Mexican style building to hold their pachangas at. Also we should have the Bud Lights distributer move into a Big and Beatiful building downtown. Also a Chico's Tacos but do not allow any jotos to go their, they can go to the gringos OP and see the gost of Crosno.

We don't need a baseball team. We have one.
What we need is an owner that knows how to promote them. Jim Paul had that team making money.
Cohen Stadium is not a problem. It makes much more sense than downtown where there is no parking, traffic snarls already, and no easy access. It is stupid to demolish the City Hall and then build another one when the one we have is fine. It is just another pie in the sky foolish action by this city council.
Where are they going to get the money to pay for this? They want to increase the Motel tax to the highest in the state. Then they want to increase the property taxes to one of the highest in the state.
This is without the mention of the fact that this idiotic cut council and the embarasemnet that is called a mayor placed a ban on any busiess done with Arizona. ow where is this team now? How about Tucson Arizona!
This is just downright stupid.

If we are going to have a Triple A team then they should build it on the site best suited for access from I10 and Paisano. The ASARCO site. IT would have all the parking everyone would want. Entry could be from A side road to the ASARCO Black bridge from the I10 by using the On Ramp East bound at Executive and widening it to three lanes. Leave the City Building where it is for now. That is also contingent on the fact the Pacific Coast League has not voted to allow Hunt and Foster to make the purchase. But I would rather not have it at all cause the Mayor and City Council are going to stick it to us no matter what the voters say in November. He has stated that twice this week alone. Can anyone spell bankruptcy? Sacramento? Scranton? San Bernardina?

El Paso is full of dumb people and some of them even use it in their monikers.
El Paso doesn't need a new baseball team. It is an expense that is not needed. Cohen was built in a good location as it lent itself to easy access without the gridlock of anything downtown.
The RR yards are no better than ASARCO would be. Anything around downtown is foolish as the traffic there is already a mess so why would anyone in their right mind want to further congest it?
At Cohen you have a nice view of the mountains. There is no great view of downtown unless it is in the rear view mirror as you are leaving.
The only thing we need as far as sports teams is concerned is some real managment for the Diablos. Think back to when they were a farm team for the Brewers. People cam,e to the games and would follow the team. then when they were a farm team for the Diamondbacks people would come and watch them and follow them. I remember watching Randy Johnson pitch at Cohen when he was on rehab after an injury.
The outrageous expense that the city council wants to force down our throats is not needed. Get some real magagment and get affiliated with a major league team like we were at one time and we will have a viable team again.
Doing this proposed action with a AAA team is a lose, lose proposition for El Paso.
No one is going to travel all the way here to watch minor league baseball. The hotel tax will go through the roof, the property taxes will skyrocket and for what? Noting!
We don't need the team nor the expense.
