This op/ed piece was idiotic from the get-go. What was the point in replacing "very" with "muy"? Excellent ufcking Spanglish Ramon!
I enjoy Mr. Renteria's pieces. They are always thoughtful, logical and funny. We have forgotten that rude behavior is not acceptable because it offends others. Thanks for writing this op ed.

renteria, your good at writting and hidding your racist, bigoted mexican hatred for gay people, its not about kissing inside that taco stand, its about discrimination against gay people, mexicans are the most homophobic people anywhere,
your in texas vato!, its only that foreign language spanish, spanglish is as american as apple pie. |

So you're saying the rules of behavior for Chico's are the same as the ones you follow when you're in church? What church would that be?
Yeah right... That's why his name shows up as Ram n Renter on everyone's computer. Get real! |

"Grandparents don't want to have to explain to 4-year-old grandchildren why two dudes were kissing at Chico's."..........Ramon, you say this is not about sexual orientation; however, you wrote the above "two dudes kissing" in your article. This tells me you are really concerned that it was two men. Wake up Ramon and you other homophobic El Pasoans.

Whether White, Brown, Black , gay or stright, redneck chino or Native,American at Chico's or at church, If you want to make out Stay aat home or get into the backseat of your car like the normal people do . And you ! Renteria keep up the great work !

This article is representative of the El Paso Times, as their editor should have caught the contradiction in this article. Of course unless the El Paso Times is homophobic too!!!!!

this is the worse column I've ever read! people like you are the reason why people will always be discriminated against and oppressed.

I agree, nobody wants to see two (f)lamers making out. Bottom line, two guys making out at a restaurant is disgusting. Let's face it, this was never normal behavior in the 60's, 70's, 80's, or 90's. Now some people expect every member of society to accept it, when it was never acceptable behavior before. If you want to be Gay, then do it in the privacy of your own home. Bunch of (C)ocksuckers.

I guarantee you, a straight couple would not have been told to leave.

El Paso Times, Texas, Ramon Renteria column: Kissing at Chico's Tacos is in bad taste [El Paso
Jul. 12--EL PASO -- Chico's Tacos is a great place to hang out any time, especially when you're muy hungry after hours. Chico's is an El Paso institution, their flauta-like tacos so revered and craved that parents will ship them cross-country by express air freight to students attending college elsewhere. So you can imagine how high El Paso eyebrows were raised when the media got wind of the chisme. Police said a group of five gay guys was asked to leave a Chico's restaurant after two of them were seen munching. Not on the crunchy taquitos smothered in cheese and tomato sauce but on each other -- as in kissing in public. The last time we checked, tacos de lengua were not on the official Chico's menu. Media reports suggested this was a simple kiss, not exactly the more intense public display of affection that you might see at a San Francisco bistro. The incident sparked a debate in conservative El Paso over whether the security personnel and police officers responded appropriately. It's not anybody's business what gay or straight couples do within the confines of their private lives. When you kiss your girlfriend, boyfriend, spouse or partner anywhere in public -- no matter how passionate or innocent the kiss -- it becomes everybody's business. You rub your lousy behavior in our face. Does a straight guy have the right to touch his girlfriend's behind in church? We all go to Chico's expecting to emerge with our tummies happily bloated and our tongues burning from the jalapeno salsa. While Chico's Tacos attracts all sorts of characters, some interesting and others just plain weird, we do not go there to be entertained or repulsed by the diners in the next booth. What ever happened to common decency? How many times have you begged your sons and daughters not to kiss like monkeys in heat at the mall, the movie theater, the concert, the stadium and especially restaurants? Kissing at restaurants is inappropriate, a basic lack of respect for others. Diners don't want to see you barefooted, bare chested or swapping DNA. Grandparents don't want to have to explain to 4-year-old grandchildren why two dudes were kissing at Chico's. "Don't look, mija. Here's another bunch of quarters, go play another video game. Pronto." We can argue all night over whether the authorities should be applauded or condemned, whether civil rights were violated in this situation, and whether we are tolerant or not. The bigger question is whether any of us, regardless of our sexual orientation, should be kissing at Chico's, Starbucks or any other public venue, even if it's not illegal and even when your peer group condones this type of behavior in public. Necking in public never blends well with that double order with extra cheese and extra salsa on the side. |

As a parent, I find it disgusting when any 2 people start "going at it" in public, gay or straight. Mr. Renteria is absolutely correct in distinguishing the difference between what 2 people do in their own home and what they do at the table next to me and my young children in a public restaurant.
When we go out to eat, we expect to eat and not see people making out. These individuals were probably drunk, as some have mentioned. I have friends that are lesbians and some that are gay, but they don't do things in public! Can't Michael Wyatt would take a case like this! I agree with Jake.

As a gay man, I too am offended by these two caught kissing in Chico's Taco. Why would anyone in thier right mind pick Chico's Tacos to be seen at, when there are better places to go to eat after a night out. What were you thinking???? PLEEZZZZZZZZ. Get with the program. Chico's Taco? UGH!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????? IF I HAD A DIME FOR EVERYTIME I SAW A MAN AND WOMAN KISSING EACH OTHER AT CHICOS I WOULD BE A RICH MAN. I HAVE KISSED MY WIFE THERE. THESE GUYS WERE VICTIMS OF HOMOPHOBIA, CLEARLY. GIVE ME A BREAK. MOREOVER, HOW MANY MALE-FEMALE COUPLES HAVE KISSED A CHICOS AND ****NOT***** BEEN KICKED OUT OF CHICOS. I'VE SEEN DRUNK PEOPLE, FIGHTS, AND OTHER STUFF THERE AND NO ONE WAS KICKED OUT.
ASSUMING THAT THESE GUYS WERE JUST KISSING, THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOMOPHOBIA IN EL PASO. |
