EPISD and all other districts DO NOT need to layoff employees, they need to 'CUT' NOT FREEZE THE OUTRAGEOUS SALARIES that the SUPERINTENDENTS and other upper Administration personel are making.... that would save a bunch of money...

"$40,000 a year to start in a town that only averages $25,000 a year is unreasonable."

No it's not. Teachers are college degreed professionals and hold state professional lisences.

p.s. If you can read this, thank a teacher.

...they shouldn't have asked for such a large amount in the Tax increase...maybe get a little less...and work with that?..It might have passed with the smaller amount...but now, cuts will be made according to EPISD officials...."Scare Tactics"....so "cut away" like everyone else is in this day and time..

Garcia should take some lessons from Dr. De La Torre in Socorro ISD. He has literally gone over the district and listened to STUDENTS, teachers, parents, and administration on where the waste is and removed what was possible. He doesn't dictate, he asks the people who are directly affected in order to make wise decisions. Hopefully, the area does not corrupt him.

They need to change the tactics of insisting admin come from the teacher roles and start hiring finance people who know what they are doing!

Stop trying to scare or intimidate us with your stupid layoffs. As if this were a secret. EPISD can always reduce teacher pay and/or hours. Six hours of school is more than enough. This will enable students to have a little side job and keep some pocket money instead of being out in the streets getting into trouble. Reduce those so-called 'rounded education' classes that will have nothing to do with the work places.
Amen! I couldn't agree with you more. Dr Garcia has created an over paid, over staffed, self centered egotistical machine. We need to make ends meet financially. We can not trust him to manage our money. He is having trouble making ends meet on $300,000 and all those perks. He has no idea that we are among the poorest counties in the state of Texas. It is time for these very quiet trustees, and teacher unions to either act or be replaced.
I have heard from teachers that they would make sacrifices to help us through this crisis. They will have to be willing to take pay cuts to keep this city from going bankrupt. EPISD reported that this would only cost the price of a Starbucks, that was an understatement! Mismanagement and the exploitation of resources by Admistrators has thrown this city into a downward spiral to disaster. We need to audit this organization and fix the problems. These admistrators, coaches, leaders, assistants to the assistants, positions have to go. True that programs need to be cut like the arts and electives but they are not necessary or tested with TAKS. They are pure fluff and waste.
We will support the teachers who are dedicated to sticking it out through our tough times. The current residents of Central Office had better be brushing up on their job interview skills.

Good start,

Reduce Dr. Garcia's salary, perks, cut annuity

Reduce Central office administration Garcia created

Cut Chief of Staff position, utilize Dr. Jordan as Burges Prinicpal

Cut positions Garcia created for his out of town cronies

Replace current openings from within, using EPISD Employees

Reduce all administrator salaries

Close the 3 Schools

Reduce the Public Relations Department by 3/4ths

Cut all at will employees

Cut literacy coaches

Cut additional days paid to athletic coaches as they already receive stipends

Cut athletic trainers to one per high school as all coaches are cpr & first aid certified and the trainers split shifts

Cut mileage and district travel

EPISD, Current Board, Ken Parker and Dr. Garcia need to follow TASBE guidelines, as TASBE stated a couple of years ago, the administrative payscales were over the top and EPISD could not afford them.

You sound like you work for Dr Garcia. That is a ridiculus amount of money for the work they do in this city. Your self centered, ego inflated occupation will result in the demise of this city. It is time for us and your kind to part ways.
Find another job because we can not afford you. Someone else can work within our means.

Dr. Garcia always uses scare tactics. He ahs purposely seperated himself from the educators and students, now his "glass house" is being stoned.

Cutting Fine Arts is a scare tactic, cuts need to be made from the top down, starting with all administrative salaries and a majority of administrators.

EPISD has too much waste...stop the waste and save your schools, teachers and programs.

My goodness, you have no idea how much extra time is put in by teachers. My wife is a teacher at EPISD. They are given no time in class for grading papers, progress reports. All that is done at home in the evening and on weekends. Any extra work is not paid overtime!!

Make the cuts across the board. Dr Garcia's riegn has turned a noble profession to the oldest profession. Money should not be the driving force in education.
Sacrifices need to be made in order to recover from this disaster. Cut the programs, eliminate these coaches that don't teach, but most of all bring the pay back in line with the city and what we can pay.
Teachers will need to speak up and say they are willing to take a paycut versus being laid off. There are so many other cities that pay more just check the internet. We don't need any more of Dr Garcia's visions or consultant buddies in our city.

If they really want to save money this is what needs to be done.
1.get rid of administrator positions that can be done by low level clerks.
2. Have only one vice principal in High Schools
3.Get rid of teachers that are just there because of tenure but do not teach.
4. Get rid of support staff like maintenace that also are there only because of tenure but do not work and milk the system.
5.Start having someone that does not work for the distric follow up on complains from parents on teachers that should not be working rather then what happens now where a principal hires someone but will not don othing about it.
6. Quit hiring on the basis of who knows who rather who is qualify and recomended.
7.Bring in subteachers that get good reviews by teachers to fit in spots open rather then the way it is done now.
THIS WILL WORK BUT WILL NOT BE USE BECAUSE IT MAKES SENSE.

If you want to see some of the outlandish positions that EPISD was interviewing for, simply go to the EPISD website, click on "Employment" then "Professional Vacancies." Read some of the riduculous positions, ie. "Project Manager Algebra Readiness Grant, Curriculum and Instruction, Assistant Director Curriculum and Instruction" and the list keeps going. If you notice these two positions are in the "interview process" and my guess is that Dr. Garcia will give these positions to some of his cronies from out of town...he is such a Mafioso

wow you are such an expert why dont you run the school district. the real problem is the lousy Supt named Garcia, get rid of him and half the school problems will be solved... hire new board members who actually know what they are doing. get rid of all these academic coaches, waste of money. its a poorly run district anyway. The board and Dr. Garcia need to think rationally and not with retaliation. Cut Garcia's perks and $20,000 annuity, reduce his salary. Reduce all administrators salaries as they have bloated in last 4-5 years, cut literacy coaches, taks coordinators, central office administrative postions, reduce public relations, reduce atheltic coaching numbers and days, each high school should have 3 assistant principals, 5 counselors, cut the extras...
