Talk Of Triple-A Baseball, Downtown Ballpark, A Real Possibility

Full story: KVIA-TV El Paso

Over the past couple of weeks, new developments have made the Borderland one of several potential destinations for the San Diego Padre's Triple-A baseball franchise, which may go up for sale soon.

Good , The trash of the Northeast ruined Cohen Staduim with their flag waving and crap. They did not deserve having the park , only took them a couple of years to destroy the team and park.

Great I hope so real baseball in ElPaso. But then again I'am sure the city and or county leaders will f--k it up. If there is nothing in it for them then it will be a no go. Palms around here need to be greased. Then of course if they do get a AAA team they will have to triple their taxes after a while. Next if tickets aren't 1 dollar and beer and hot dogs aren't 50 cents people won't go cause their to GD cheapy skates.

To get more fans in they need some new promotions, like having an Elvis impersonator perform at halftime or given away signed, full glossy, 8x10's of the greats like Willie Mays or Roger Maris.

The idea sounds great, but remember how the idea came about. PDN wants the taxpayer to built it for them and then they manage or control the purse strings. If we build it, then WE own and control it with management that has OUR interest protected.

btw, check out how Cohen Stadium (upper right hand corner) compares size-wise to what's available downtown. you'd have to do some major demolition just to get a stadium the same size as cohen; city hall, science museum, masonic temple, houses, the depot, etc. and unless i'm mistaken, the idea is to build a bigger stadium. good luck with that!

That's right we are trash. Stay out of our neighborhoods and for goodness sake, don't move here. Its terrible and ugly. Stay where you're at. Please avoid US 54 at all costs. We need to keep our area free from outsiders that are clean and actual good citizens. Please stay away.

Funny how it is all blamed on the northeast.

Let me ask, what has the east side done lately, or the west side with all the snobs, and oh heck yeah lets put it in downtown, the old ASARCO lot so the people watching the games can get shot by stray bullets flying over the border. Could be a promotion, if you family member gets shot at the game you get a free ticket to the next game.
The Diablos went to hell when they were sold. Had nothing to do with the Stadium, although we were sold a bill of goods on that one it was supposed to be a sports complex not just for baseball.
Would love to see a AAA team here the Major affiliation would make it fun again. I still remember when the Diablos were associated with the Brewers and the the Diamondbacks.
Of course lately there are just too many things between innings can't get the game going before they have some other stuff going on.
Jim Paul knew how to do it. A few promos not too many.

Of course you have to be a liar, thief and a coward for not using your real name. Maybe you should grow a pair and grow up behaving like a normal human being.

We cannot afford to build a new stadium in Central El Paso. We do not have enough private property down there to condemn in order to put in a baseball stadium much less a basketball arena or sportsplex.

Asarco land is already spoken for. The city is and local visionaries, me being one of them, will be keeping the smoke stack and turning Asarco land into a tourist attraction.

That's a wonderful idea Arrrrrr! They could have bungy jumping off the smoke stake, have helicopter rides around the smoke stack, dress the kids up in those has-mat type looking grear and take rides in the slag dumper cars. Also have a Cantina that has Bud Lights!
Mexican people like you make me proud to live in El Paso.

You should loosen up the bone and vote Republican this time. I used to vote Democratic too but they screwed us on this Keystone deal.

So,$40 million to build a new stadium, and say another $20 million to build a new city hall. Hmmm.

I'll tell you rubes what this podunk town needs. A decent, legal red light district. That and legalize the marijuana. That'll bring in the tourism.

you're right about the ED. but railroad land wouldn't work though. neither of the train yards is big enough. they're too narrow. if you want to do this right, best solution would be to raze 4, 5 or better still 6 square blocks in the second ward. get your stadium AND on site parking in one shot. otherwise, we'll need to shuttle and... meh, forget it, i'm losing interest already.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Sagittarius

You're feeling ultra optimistic today, which is great for summoning up the necessary energy to do what has to be done. But don't let it go to your head and convince you that you're capable of performing miracles. If you aren't behaving in this way you'll have to cope with someone who has a swollen head and thinks they're the cat's whiskers.
