Traditional Family Values are a thing of the past Pastor Brown. I admire your will to fight and stand up for what you believe. However, your effort is laced with discrimination and hatred. You cannot hide behind the bible a spit versus of the gospel to justify your beliefs. Truly we are all God's children and if policy makers want their employees to have inclusive benefits that demonstrate the values of today then so be it. You've made your point and in all honesty it does not matter what I think because you are poised and set in stubborness which will push into the light as a champion for this cause but when you die you will have to answer to God for these actions and he will be the final judge of your crusade.

Since this is probably not going to do any good then there has to be a way to define domestic partners. Have them show proof that they have filed a joint tax return and will continue to do so during their employment. That should weed out about half of the group.

"Traditional Family Values" include fairness and compassion. Bravo to the City Council, and shame on those who would use the Bible as a bludgeon!

This Pastor preaches hate. He is not a man of god. His sermans are full of hate toward others. Another reason why El Paso does not progress.

Tom Brown- is it really necessary or Christlike to so adamantly and viciously attack the lives of others? I grew up in a very conservative Christian household but left because I couldn't handle the church's tendencies to dictate the lives of everyone they met. Why not live and let live? What happened to 'judge not lest ye be judged'? I would be less appalled by this behavior if it wasn't laced with so much hatred. Using words like 'abomination' to generalize a group of people is a pretty severe statement. I don't remember Christ ever using that word in the New Testament, nor do I believe that Christ would treat ANYONE with such animosity. I must agree with the old adage, "Jesus protect me from your followers!" If the church always got their way we would still outlaw interracial marriages and lock homosexuals up in asylums. I'd like to think we've grown a little more than that in the past 60 years. I hope that God has reserved a 'special' place for you on judgement day pastor Brown.

So many tend to forget the love Christ had for EVERYONE.
I do understand the bible specifies a marriage between a man and woman. However; as Christ taught us, we are to love everyone. We may not agree with everyone's choices, but we must love everyone. Just because we accept someone doesn't mean we have to approve of them. How about we just pray for people to follow what God commands, be a Christ like example to those we meet and leave the judging to God. |

It is not just pastor Brown. This is a common sense issue. There are over 4,000 registered voters on this petition. Pastor Brown is courageous to be the leader. Yes it is also a biblical issue. Regardless of what you think the community needs or should have. You all should ask 'What does God the almighty creator of heaven and earth think of the proposition that domestic partners gay or straight deserve extra benefits that belong to MARRIED couples?' Marriage is a legal and spiritual commitment. Do it or don't but don't expect to be allowed the same benefits if you don't.

Let's put a petition together to repeal this guy's tax exemption that he has for his church. I don't believe in the hate and bigotry he is preaching, so why should I be forced to help pay the taxes of a narrow minded bigot. Fight him on his own turf - hit is wallet.

A Question of morality you say? Absolutely. It is immoral for one group to deny rights to another. Just as it was immoral to kick Native Americans out of their land and put them in reservations. Just as it was immoral to create Jim Crow laws. Just as it was immoral to bring in Chinese immigrants to build our infrastructure only to take their rights away with the Chinese Exclusion Act. Just as it was immoral to round up Japanese American citizens in camps during WWII.
I see The same immorality happening again by the same group of radical chrisitans who instituted the atrocities mentioned earlier. This time to a different group. And in 50 years, they will target another group. I guarantee it. Traditional family values, you say? Let's take a look at what they're defending. The traditional institution of marriage is falling apart due to various conditions. And rather than trying to fix it by outlawing divorce (because it is profitable after all) and discouraging single parent households, the simple solution is to attack another group who is trying to make a family though not with the same criteria. I'm all for traditional families. I was raised in one myself. But don't discount other families simply because you can't fix the problems of your own marriage. Otherwise, how is society supposed to look up to traditional marriage, if it's guaranteed only a 50/50 chance. |

hmmm, wonder if what this preacherman is doing is legal if he has tax-exempt status for his church? it is because of preachers like him that i left organized religion years ago. no preacherman, church or other entity or individual has the right to tell me how to live my life or condemn me because i don't live the way they think i should. in the grand scheme of things, this preacherman and his followers should be glad the city is providing this benefit because it will help reduce the city's cost of providing indigent health care to a group of people who likely cannot afford insurance on their own, and cannot pay 100 percent of the cost of going to a doctor or hospital. guess who makes up the difference? these folks need to find something more meaningful to do with their lives and their time, and learn compassion towards their fellow men and women. is that not what jesus would do?

Pastor Tom and his Word of Life church have introduced a new concept to El Paso (although as usual a few years behind the nation as a whole). The public has a right to vote on the civil liberties of whoever they feel is too free? What a great idea! Imagine, if we had thought of this sooner, we could have withheld rights to women and minorities, or anyone who we feel doesn't toe the line as established by the church.
Pastor Tom--no one has the "God given right" to limit the rights of others. Not in this country. However, I do believe that your concept would be very welcome (and has in fact been implemented) in Iran. |

Pastor Brown preaches hate. I have heard his speeches. He is anti Jew and ant Muslim.

'Equality'- I second that motion! True separation of church and state would incite churches to pay their own taxes and finance their own bigotry.
In response to "what" in El Paso- please do not call this a 'common sense issue' when you obviously have no real grasp on the definition of 'common sense'. Common sense would dictate that human beings should treat each other with respect regardless of whether or not they agree. You are absolutely right in stating that this has become a biblical issue, and in response to that I only ask respectfully that you please keep your religion out of my government. |

He started hating homosexuals after his boyfriend left him. If it was up to him he would kill every gay in El Paso himself. |
||||
Can't happen unless we live near water. But then again you probably believe giant sea creatures cause earthquakes by slamming their tails into the coast and stomachaches are caused by small toads. |
||||
Please keep your religious morality out of city government. Religious ideologies have no place in citizen's rights. |
||||
Keep your homosexual tendancies out of our lives. Freak. |
