(((((((("Turn off Star
What has become of the Star of El Paso?
She is battered and poorly maintained.
She was once a glamorous icon, but now appears as a "has-been."

She is not aging well. Once the grand dame of the city, the Star on the Mountain now sits in tattered bulbs in an unkempt demeanor.
Give her dignity back and turn her off once and for all; know when to close a chapter. Since she can no longer be maintained, let her drift into history with integrity.

She'll always be remembered as the Star of El Paso, the one who showed the pride of the city, particularly at Christmastime.

Now let her rest and let us remember the old ... how things used to be in El Paso. Marc Molina"))))))))))

Years ago when I was coming back home from a trip to northeast Texas coming down the Carlsbad Highway the most important thing during Christmas was seeing the Star on the Mountain. It said we were home. When I came home from Military our plane banked over El Paso and I was lucky enough to be on the right side of the plane as we turned into the final leg of landing and I saw the star Shining out.

I remember Ted Bender (KTSM weatherman) sitting out where he could see the Star light up in a ceremony narrated by Karl O. Wyler and then throwing the switch so the light came on. We then went outside to the roof of the house and looked at the star and knew we were in the final stretch of Christmas. And the light was extinguished after January 6 of every year.

Now there is no ceremony or fanfare, no presentation, just a continual light very few pay attention to except for the visitors to our city. The city has failed our customs and the electric Company takes the money for lighting it up when they used to pay for it over the Christmas Holidays. IT is time to go back to the way it was in the 1960s and 1970s. Bring back our customs City Council.

Well said, the Star meant something in the day, not anymore, unfortunately.

The star looks like sh!t most the time with all the burnt out bulbs and busted lines.
And the ArrrSARCO smoke stack covered in black soot and half the red beacon lights don't work.
El Paso what a dump!
Texas should just pour concrete over the whole damn thing, and not leave Anything for the beaners!

You are a nut super sour. The star and ASARCO are not even related in this thread and should not be brought up at all together.

One big problem: the mountainside below the star is littered with broken CFLs (compact florescent lights) and CFLs contain mercury - a deadly neurotoxin that can affect the brain, liver and kidneys, and cause developmental disorders in children.

Close it down. We got enough dumb folks here.

Go to KVIA OR KTSM and have then document your statement before any believes what drivel you have written without proof.

Show me the nail marks in your hands and feet and the hole in the right side of your ribs. Otherwise all you are a a braggart and loser like Petro, HHHJJJ and others like you.

You have no sense of custom or honor.

If that is true, then I demand an investigation. Trouble is, ever since Derek Shore left town, we have no hard-hitting reporters who will take on a story of that magnitude. We need someone with street smarts who will follow the story wherever it leads. So sadly I'm afraid it will continue, although for the life of me I don't know where or who is involved. Perhaps you could provide a lead to this massacre.

I'm not a religious man so I don't know anything about the bible. I did see a movie once where the stomata or whatever it is afflicted some woman who started bleeding at unusual times. But I only saw the film because the actress was hot, not because I had an interest in religion.

That's blasphemy, my son. Why don't you come to confession this weekend and then we'll go out and toast your pardon with a nice bottle of 12 year old scotch that a parishioner recently gave me?

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Taurus

Be careful if you're supposed to be saving money, because it's likely to fly through your fingers in no time at all today. You're open to all sorts of delicious impulses now, such as splashing out your hard- earned cash on little treats or big purchases. Indulgence is the key here, and you'll also want to push the boat out if you're going to a restaurant for a meal. You'll work your way through the menu, regardless of the cost.
