El Paso County is a wonderful place. I relocated here 18 years ago - now it is home. The people are friendly and the weather is nice. For more information go to http://www.elpasohome.info

I moved to El Paso County 30 years ago and I'm staying here til I die. I moved here from the Bay Area (Newark, CA) and I was in for a complete change of weather, cost-of-living expenses, and city traffic. My wife is a Mexican-American gal who can speak fluent English and Spanish. I have learned the Spanish language since living here and I feel proudly to be able to converse in English and Spanish. El Paso County is a very wonderful area to raise your children, if you the parents, provide leadership, support for your children early on in their childhood.

I inherited a few lots -- also purchased in the 70's. Sometime around 1998 one of them went from minimal value to totally worthless ("no taxes due"). I have no plans to check out the area any time soon, but I must admit I am curious. How does land become TOTALLY WORTHLESS? A sinkhole? Anyone out there with answers?
|
|
Without looking I couldn't tell you. Go to www.epcad.org to check the land value. You'll need an address or the property owner's name. Prices in Horizon have gone up as people move out of the city trying to escape the increasing property taxes. |

Dear Skeptic – Thanks for the answer. Okay, I checked out the site, and technically, my property is not completely worthless. It is worth five dollars. Then, I looked for further info on how these rates are derived … one of the pages says that,“the market approach is most often used and simply asks,“What are properties similar to this property selling for?”,“What would an and “How much would it cost to replace the property with one of equal utility?”. I guess in my case, the answer is five dollars.(sigh). Okay, back to work on Monday.

I am interested in buying worthless property & can pay you more than $5! I have a grand daughter who hopes to attend college in Texas. ANY property recorded in her name makes her a LEGAL residence thus avoiding out of state tuition! If you would like to sell - or anyone else with worthless Texas property --please email me at tytyler@elp.rr.com |

Hang on to it. The Army is coming with 20,000 troops and their families. They'll need a place to live and property values everywhere will jump. I'm fighting a 68% increase in my property value, in ONE year. Contact a realator in Horizon City and "chat" if you are thinking of selling. |

Worthless Land in Horizon City.
My mother has two lots in Horizon City. My father got scammed back in the 70s and bought two Horizon Lots. Can any one tell me how I find the real value and how I can unload these lots? Last I checked I could not sell them because they had no utilities, yet El Paso has no problem sending my mother a tax bill for land you can not even build on. Can some one refre me to a web site or a realtor? Help. Phil |

If the lots have a physical address or a proper owners name you check their value at; http://www.epcad.org You might want to hang on to those lots. The Army is sending 20,000 troops and their families to Ft. Bliss and land/housing are going to jump. Horizon City is growing and is only about 25 miles from Downtown and Ft. Bliss is closer. You can search Horizon City on the net to find current values. Good luck. |
|
It's about 25 to 35 minutes depending on where on Bliss/Biggs you are trying to get to. Within a couple years there will be a new bi-pass from the 54 to loope 375 that my get you to Horizon City faster. And they are also planning on a new gate outside of Biggs on 375 and that would be very much faster if you work out at the new area. I'm going to have a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath, nice swiming pool, about 1780 sq ft for sale in Cul Da Sac. I'm leaving in January. |

We have a large number of military families. My neighbors (from Ft. Bliss) tell me it is cheaper and better to live in Horizon than to try to get a place closer and pay more for much less. It is quiet, the schools are good and we really enjoy it. My husband workds downtown and has no problem with the drive (takes about 15 min.)
