Police time should not be wasted over non-police or crime issues like drunk gay guys calling the police from Chico's Tacos instead of taking up their civil matter with the owner of Chico's.

finally, the cops start to barely follow the constitution, barely. it took a lack of $$$ to do it. I say get rid of them all, they only violate the bill of rights anyway, and the people are MUCH safer when there is no police state than an increase in crime. ask the 4000 unarmed people that have been killed by cops since 9-11. btw, 9-11 killed only 2900 people. cops work for us, all power is given to the people by the constitution, the bill of rights demands we distrust government and the armed people in it. ask those people in juarez like the ones I've interviewed, who were never bothered by the in-killing of "drug dealers", but now have had their homes invaded by the army 3 or more times. texas even practices stopping people and stealing their money, 3 towns have already been caught doing it like alice, tx and in NE texas. and they claim it's in the law just like the mexican army.

restore the constitution and LIBERTY. stop the police state, before it's too late

Chaos is much better than a few miscarries of justice ? Thats what we would have if there was no police. Everyone would determine on their own what is lawful, LOL. I don know of a perfect organization or people.

In any case the REAL issue that while the city and media playdown the reduced police duties, we are at greater risk. Small arguements can and do escalate. Ignoring minor crimes leads to serious criminal activity. And to announce to the world that we now have less police protection only emboldens the criminals.

If you still cant see the damage the mayor and the free spending trio has done to this city, there is no hope for you. Now at a time when the city is experiencing a major growth in population is when we need more police and fire personnel.

There is no moeny for the services we NEED but there is plenty for studies for bridges and roads(Redd expansion) that we dont want or can wait just doesnt make sense. The Redd rd project will REQUIRE a new study in 2018, so why now when the city is broke.

Enough with the shortfall term, stop the spin and call it what it is, DEFICIT. Due to mismanagement. The recession didnt cause it, we would have been broke anyway because you cant just spend, spend and borrow forever.

The mayor is on a mission to create a legacy to his memory and that is the driving force.

It seems that ever since Allen became chief, that all the police department does is apologize for doing something wrong. It seems an increase in these sorts of incidents makes me think that maybe he is as big an "administrative incompetent" as everyone has been saying. Sure seems the department has gone down hill since Allen became chief.

When you have less police than you need things like this are going to to continue to happen.

They had to reduce the number of calls because of funding but also because the work and stress levels are begining to show. Expect more problems.

We have been put at greater risk because of mismanagement by the city council.

Chief Allen is doing the best he can, if you recall when they first admitted there wasnt enough police and no money for new classes, he stated he would make do. They KNEW there was going to be problems. The only failure the Chief made, was in not speaking up regardless of whether the city manager or mayor liked it.

Well ,just who will be protected??It looks like the citizens will be taking matters into their own hands. And the POLICE will be called. A better solution would be for the ELECTED officials to take a cut in pay and cut their hours since they are not doing a good job.The death of the criminal Jose Daniel Gonzalez Galeana is mentioned. And then it`s stated"Some of these same people are still localized in the community." That is why I ask ,"just who will be protected"? How about putting bugs in their vehicles if it is known they are still in the COMMUNITY?Monitor their telephone/internet use.You know that license plates can be changed on their cars ,so VIN numbers should be exposed.

Overworked officers and public that needs their assistance is a serious situation. The city manager was hired to do the job that the Mayor and council were doing prior to going to a city manager form of government. As tax payers we voted on this issue, but we did not vote for Ms. Wilson to have 4-5 Assistant City Managers to do what the Mayor and council did. These assistants all have six figure salaries. Something is seriously wrong. Ms. Wilson still has council and the Mayor around. I guess the real question is, where should we really make the cuts. Should the tax payers who are paying the salaries continue to pay for over priced assistants or for police officers who respond to their emergencies?

If they really wanted to put there man power to good use. Take away the checkpoints that waste everyones time. While your sitting at checkpoints people are committing crimes cause they know you cant respond fast enough cause your writing a ticket for no insurance.

Police dont put all the manpower at a checkpoint and leave areas unprotected. And it is usually a combined agencies effort.

Is that why 3 weeks in a row there was drive-bys in the middle of downtown at 1 am where all the clubs are at, but police failed to catch anyone? Guess where they were. Police checkpoints have at least 6-7 units working each one. You cant tell me those officers couldnt be more helpful at some other part of the city. at least 2-3 of those units are parked in there car down the street waiting for someone to U-turn out of line.

That was your wasted of time. Officers responding to pety crap instead of taking care of real crime promblems. Do you really need 5 units for a gas run or 3 units to take care of a shoplifter?

The problem is that for years the City was able to justify increases in these departments because the community was happy with the end results and because they were working. Now that things are the same but people are losing their jobs as well as the city losing revenues, the city can not justify those increases.

I would not doubt that if they had to, the police could do away with 2 to 5% of their staff.

Get rid of some of them bad cops that like working on their own beating up and hurting citizens.
