This has turned into two sides of the coin. The people that say leave the cops alone and the people that are saying the cops should be setting an example. Yes, the police do a thankless and necessary job and I wouldn't have the job they do. But, just because a person is a cop does not exempt them from following the laws they are charged with enforcing. To me, this is easy to see. Now, my personal opinion on the seat belt law is it's dumb as dirt. I do believe there should be an age requirement to wearing one but after the age of 18 (the age at which one can enlist in the military and go get shot at) it should be up to the individual if they want to wear one or not. I, as a grown and consenting adult have a right to make up MY mind if I want to wear one or not while understanding the consequences of what could happen if I'm in a crash while not wearing one. Also I'm not endangering anyone else by not wearing my seatbelt. It is not the governments job to save me from myself. All the seatbelt law is about is a way to generate revenue. One last thought: IF the seatbelt law is the governments idea of saving lives and making it against the law to not wear one. How long will it be for the government to say that smoking causes X number of deaths a year due to cancer so smoking should be outlawed to save lives.

I guess all I was trying to say is that the police are not above the law.

often times cops are doing dispatch stuff while on the cell phone. they may be calling a key holder of a business to see if they are doing repairs and that is why the alarm is going off. with cell phones being such a part of the norm they are used by police for police business.
AND
who cares if a cop is not wearing his seat belt. it will be him who does not get workers comp after an accident where no seat belt was used and his family attending his funeral if he gets killed in a persuit while not wearing his seat belt.
thank god we have police who do the job for little pay to protect crybabies like you guys.

While I agree with you point on the cell phone use by the police, I don't agree with your seatbelt point. If you're going to stand behind of who cares if the cops wear their seatbelts then why should the cops care if we wear ours? It is not being a crybaby to say that they should follow the same laws they are charged with enforcing.

Clint is a great man and left on his own accord. The reasons are for him and his family to know, not the general hateful public. When are you people going to get a life and give a man a break when he is trying to better himself and his family.

I never said it affected me did I? I have made it clear on more than one post that the police are bound by the same laws that they are charged with enforcing. If it is required for us citizens to wear our seatbelts then it is required of the police to wear theirs. The old saying of do as I say not as I do won't cut it. The law applies equally.

it does sir. and if you are so worried about it maybe you should go to the next city council meeting and bring it up. chief roberts will be there and the messege will be passed along. and if you are still not pleased you could always become a police officer yourself and then take care of the problem by setting an example or by writing your fellow officers tickets.
or you could simply look the other way for a while
