School couldn't get parents to help at dance

Full story: The Reporter

The world surrounding Richmond High School teemed with outrage after last weekend's gang rape of a 15-year-old girl outside her homecoming dance, and those in charge still don't know where to point the finger.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Parents not getting involved with their kid's education.

Yes, it's a shame parents did not support the dance, but the dance DID have a good number of staff chaperons. The area around the building should have been policed, too, obviously.

Did you really expect that any of the parents would help. If they really cared about their kids, do you think they would live in Richmond?

Are you kidding me? Now it's the people of
Richmond's fault because they did not chaperon
a dance? The blame belongs with the suspects
who commited the crime. She could have stayed in a
lighted area and wait for her father to pick her up
verses leaving with a person she knew to a poorly lit area
(by her decision and accounts by news articles). She left
the dance and now it's the police's fault too. There
maybe a lawsuit coming by this girl's family. Stay tune to
find out who will take the fall for this one.

Girls who leave a dance alone and join in with a group of guys who are drinking are at great risk for being harmed, seems to me.

Social parasites sure can spread the blame around. Looks like they need a class on baby setting and nose wiping........

Note to the Richmond School District:

Next time, place refreshment stands where cops can get free donuts and coffee at convenient locations around the parimeter of the high school. Gaurantee you won't have a shortage of volunteer off duty cops helping out with event security.

Richmond police Chief Chris Magnus said. "As far as patrolling the campus, providing perimeter security, that sort of thing ... that's not what they're there to do."

Time for all to accept responsibility.
As far as I'm concerned, LE there, school district, and parents are guilty of abuse and neglect.

Also, in other news, Assemblymember Nancy Skinner says: Mercury news.

"She said economic stresses, foreclosures and other combinations may have exacerbated the horrific crime."

Ms. Skinner, this is a pretty bad defense.

Nancy Skinner? Without even looking, my bet is that Nancy is an Arrogant, Liberal Democrat who has not a clue to ghetto life. This crime had nothing to do with the economy.

Sure, no doubt the downturn of the economy is causing teen and young adult men to run wild and brutally assault girls at dances.

I have this fantasy where such males are flown to a section of the Grand Canyon and dropped in.

This crime has no outside influences. It is a simple case of degenerate sex offenders attacking a girl who made a poor choice. However, that choice doesn't mean she deserves a gang raping. This makes me sick to my stomach to read. I almost didn't let my daughter go to her dance the other day, after reading this, because I don't find a huge distinction between Fairfield and Richmond. Just disgusting. I sincerely hope that girl pulls through okay. And, give it a rest on the liberal/conservative angle - politics didn't cause this.

I'm sure the girl will pull through, physically. It's the mental part that is going to be a challenge. It doesn't help that the school is literally looking for someone to blame. It's too late for the blame game. That poor girl has been victimized, brutalized, and violated in such a way I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Seems ridiculous that the cops don't patrol the outside of the dance-what exactly do they do? Watch the dance, and drink punch? Can't blame the police though, because the school should know what's going on. I can't imagine how her father must have felt, when he found out what happened. Can you imagine waiting for the call from your daughter to pick her up from the dance, and instead you get a call from the Emergency room, or the police at your door. I hope to God they didn't give her any STD's or impregnate her.

The City of Richmond has been a hellhole for quite some time now being run by Liberals, so called Progressives, and ACORN types while continuing its downward spiral. Brutal attacks and rapes are just about daily events in Richmond. The exception to this attack is the victim is a High School girl attending a Homecoming who was brutally beaten and gang raped by other students while others stood by watching and videotaped the crime. This girl will be scarred for life because of the actions of some animals who hopefully will be behind bars for the rest of their lives, but I wouldn't bet on that either.

Richmond should have their dances immediately after school because after dark things shake out very bad there. Everything in Richmond should take place in daytime for that matter.

That was my thought too. Why not hold the dances during the day on a Saturday.....no cover of darkness for the thug element to try and hide in the shadows. And, perhaps they'd even get some slightly improved parental involvement/volunteers too.

Does anyone know what the gun laws in Richmond are? Can someone get a permit to carry? Are there any major bans?

Everytime someone from that school district opens their mouths, I get more and more upset.

They need to apologize, and stop making up excuses. They not only failed to teach the students, they failed to protect this poor girl. It's not a matter of "We can't". It's a matter of "We won't because we're too lazy."

The school needs to make it their responsiblity to watch out for their students at school sponsored events. I went to a high school with approx 4000 students. We were a Zero tolerance campus, and they managed to inforce it even when school was out. Every sporting event, dance, or otherwise had adequate security, roped off the "dark" areas of campus, and made sure that students went home safe. I went to a school that didn't have 10% of the problems Vallejo had, because security was present at all times. They swept the campus during events, and made sure that things like this didn't happen. Did it take a lot of work? Yeah, but my campus was 1000 times safer late at night than Richmonds' is during the day.

If they buckle down, stop making excuses, there's no reason that if they work towards zero tolerance for weapons, drugs, alcohol and violence that they won't be able to make themselves the same. It may be hard at first, but, you know what? It's worth it.

I hope school districts around the bay pay attention to this, and start taking action. And if not, even though I don't normally encourage lawsuits, I hope this girl sues the heck out of them. Maybe then they will learn.
