I "thought" I canceled my account years ago (yes, years). Have not heard peep from them but today I received a notice from a collection firm saying I owe them $70+!!! When I called "customer service", they told me they had NO HISTORY detail. Needless to say I am disputing it with the collection agency.
These guys are REALLY slimy!!!

I got a similar notice yesterday asking for $118. I don't know if I ever cancelled my EZPass, but it;s been out of my car and unused for several years. I called Alliance One, who said it had to do with insufficient funds, and then called EZPass, who said they could do nothing because it had been passed on collections.
Other than an occasional email that I never opened because I didn't use the EZPass, I have received no correspondence at all from EZPass in the past several years. No letter telling me I was past due, no phone calls...which I think is a pretty shoddy way to run a business.
I have sent dispute/complaint emails to both Alliance One and EzPass.

Used EZ Pass for 4 months in 06 and called customer service to cancel Tappan Zee commuter plan. Customer Service rep told me that it has been cancelled. However, horrified to find out that they have charged me 360 $ when i checked the account in late 2007. When contacted Customer Service again, they waived 6 months worth of charges. Asked me to write to Newark Customer Service for the remaining amount. Now received a collection notice from AllianceOne. I am going to dispute this charge and lets see what happens. EZ Pass customer service is horrible to say the least.

I just got my alliance collections letter about my ezpass account that I have not used since 2002. apparently that account has been acruding a 1 dollar a month fee and some other fees totaling 118 dollars. I was never notified ever by ezpass they all the sudden let me know that i still have an ez pass account. I know their will be no way to correct this because dealing with ez pass is like dealing with the DMV. How do I negotiate with alliance to pay less to make this go away!!!

I received a "bill" from AllianceOne for $106.50 on behalf of EZPASS. I sent a certified letter requesting verification of the debt. EZ PASS sent me all of my statements from 2004 to date, for an ezpass transponder I returned to them in 2004. They claim they never got the tag and that the account has been "open" for 4 years, thus a $2 a month fee for 4 years of monthly payments. Calls to EZ pass are futile. AllianceOne wants proof that I sent the tag back to EZPASS 4 years ago. Of course I don't have proof. I returned the tags in the bag EZ Pass provided. I had called ezpass to cancel the tags, thus receiving the bags in the mail! I had to pay the full amount otherwise they would report to the credit bureau that I refused to pay. Contact your local and state reps about this scam. EZ Pass should have a policy that a tag, unused for say 2 years, would become closed. Why didn't they just wait 10 years and collect more?

Just contact the better business bureau and you will get it resolved asap. Don't waste time contacting the company alone, go through the BBB. You can fill out a form online.

I have been trying to cancel my NJ EZPass for months. Same experience. Was never told there was a problem w/ my EZPass & received nothing from them notifying me that there was a problem w/ my account. Went to an actual EZPass office in RI and they checked the actual EZ Pass and said it was fine! Contacted NJ EZ Pass & they said it had been referred to Alliance One. TRIED to contact Alliance One. They are TERRIBLE. Still have no resolution, but am certainly not going to pay anyone anything until I talk to a live person. These people are terrible & should be reported to the Better Business Bureau!!

My credit card had expired (oops) and my EZPass started accruing a balance. OK, my bad. I continued to go through tolls for about 5 months with no indication that there was a problem. I received no E-mails, no phone calls, no pony express or carrier pigeon notice that my credit card had expired. I noticed on my bank statement that EZPass hadn't charged me in a long time, so I by chance, decide to log in. I see a huge bill (because every delinquent toll is a 30 dollar fine). I call and sort it out, even got the fees waived (according to them).
Using EZPass now for 3 more months happily.
Just got a letter from a collection agency today for that same amount, tolls (I've already paid) included. This is NOT the way to run a business.

Additionally, I call and they're closed.
When you have customers, you should have someone there when customers are available to call. I am NOT wasting my workday away fighting with these people unless they pay me for my time spent.

Don't bother paying the collection amount. If you are making the payment with the hope that EZ Pass will re-open your account they do not. If your account goes into collection the Customer Service Dept instructs you to call Alliance One (collection agency). Once I made the payment I called the EZ Pass Customer Service Center again and was informed "Once an EPass account has been put into collections they will "never give you another ezpass account" - quoted right from the EZ Pass Customer Service rep. The EZ Pass system is a scam!

I had turned my EZ pass in over three years ago, because I was unable to use up the monies I had put on the pass. So, to me I was told my account was terminated. However; I never got my deposit back, instead I received a bill last month for over $50.00. I called they told me I could fight it but it wouldn't matter they would still get there money. I told them I not going to PAY IT! They had gotten more than enough from me and I have ALL TOLL RECEIPTS for the last four years, that I haven't had the pass for. This in my opion, is a scam and away for our government to try and controll us. We the People need to fight back against this deceiving act of government controll.

OK so far I was able to cancel my account within one week. i will be keeping my eye on my account online for the next 30 days, that is the time limit to when they said on the phone i should receive my refund, to make sure they follow through. – i canceled my account online, click Contact Us at the bottom of the page. In category choose: CLOSING YOUR E-ZPASS ACCOUNT – They email you within a day a Close Account Request Form as a pdf to fill out to send back with your plastic tag. – You also have to enclose a letter stating why you are canceling, include ALL info from your Close Account Request Form so they can not mess anything up. – when mailing all 3 things back i also attached a USPS tracking number so i knew when they received the package. – it was recevied Nov. 2nd, so I called (1-888-288-6865; option 5) Nov. 4th to make sure it was processing, it had been. – the Customer Service Rep was very helpful in telling me how to check for the closing on line.: after you log in to your account Click On the Tag at the top that reads: Account History Under that tag Click: Non-Financial History Enter a start date of about 6 months prior to your date you called to check that they received it; then end date of day of phone call.( i did 5/9/2009 – 11/4/2009) HIT submit. – the top of the list shoud read: TRANSACTION DATE DESCRIPTION 04-Nov-2009 10:49:56 Delete Device
Hope this helps

Did you ever get it resolved?

me too! I paid my 6$ fine immediately after I learned it had somehow not read my ezpass well, called to confirm payment went through and they reassured me that other fines and charges would be taken care of. 3YEARS later, I have collection agencies calling me to tell me that i have a $25 collection fine for the 6$ that was already paid for! unbelievable. I followed these steps below and found it to be quite easy to cancel going step by step as below.
