Your light complected driveway pavers are most likly "Irish" travelers from lower east coast and smaller settlements in midwest. The "tanned" complected pavers are rom gypsies usually out of Ohio & southern New Hampshire. The gypsies almost always target the elderly, are very cunning and can "read" or detect a potential victim very easily. If any asphalt paver approaches you, 99% of the time it is a scam artist. You should be firm and demand they leave your property at once and tell them that you "are" going to call the police. If you do sucumb to thier offer of a paving deal, you will be sorry and probably end up paying a legit paving company even more to correct the damage that these traveling pavers do. If you do need asphalt paving work done, don't just pick a company from the phone book as many gypsy pavers list themselves under multiple company names & phone numbers. Call the B.B.B. and talk to neighbors

most so called gypsy pavers try to satisfy thier customers asphalt is not a exact science and only seasonal so the door to door sales can be exlained by trying to wrk all they can during the season instead of filling bankruptsy and costing taxpayers money like many other small bis they start early and work late if u want to complain about real crooks investigate the ceo of the enron or ceo of countrwide mortgage they make a real impact not some guy at your door trying to make a living paving if they were real crooks wouldnt they find an easier occupation i dont care how u spread it asphalt looks hot and hard

Hey you scammers, go ahead and call me a #!*@!B.S. artist. I live right next door to a huge "clan" of gypsy pavers. Last I checked, I had 20/20 vision. They change thier business names like the weather, paint the trucks often or get new ones, display out of state license plates that are smudged with tar, go on frequent "out of state" forays...hmmm? They get frequent visits from state and county police. Besides, I can google them, they're all over the internet...and none of it is pretty! I have never seen them pave any driveways on my street but yet a crosstown paving company (reputable)with well worn looking trucks has paved half the driveways on my street since I've lived there. I've done my homework on these people. I just beleive that if you have to travel around the country, even in the summer, going door to door, in all likelyhood, your a scammer. And I'm Brent Black and I approve this message.

THE BOTTOM LINE TRUTH

Before you read this comment, know that I am someone who knows 100% what i am talking about in this situation. Yes, there are "gypsy pavers" who go door to door and scam people. I was previously employed by some of these people for years. I now have branched off and own my own LEGIT paving business. Gypsies, as you call them, are no more than people with romanian descent, who's ancestors did travel in buggies at one point, and somewhere along the way, one of them picked up on paving, figured out a way to sell it in deception, and the whole family followed, for generations to come.. However, it is not the fact that they approach you door to door.. it is how they approach. Some "gypsies" in fact do have great legitimate businesses, are listed in the yellow pages, and do in fact give you great, affordable paving jobs. If a paver approaches you with left over asphalt from "road work" or "a big project," attempting to give you whatever materials they have for 2,3,or 4 dollars a square foot.. your getting screwed. If a paver approachespolite manner, with a SOLID, no-bullshit price, no hesitation giving you a business card, Contract of work being done, and no payment until completion.. theres a good chance you'll get what you paid for.. like said previously.. even legit businesses are slow.. and some people don't even realize what they might need to do in order to better their driveways or parking lots. If a legit perhaps "gypsy" paver brings to your attention that you might want to pave your driveway, you both win.. You get a new driveway from a reputable company (who might happen to have romany blood in them), and they score another paving job to get throught the season before winter.. so, to answer everyones questions, yes, there are gypsy paving scammers.. out of state plates, left over materials, no straight answers, no business cards, only 1800 numbers, be aware of.. but if someone approaches you with an estimate, shop around, get prices, and who knows, a gypsy might give you a nice driveway without you even knowing their nationality. But to say that all gypsies are scammers is a false statement. That is the equivalent to saying that all black people steal things, all white people are racist, all males of asian descent have a small genital area, or something along those lines.

I am a gypsy that has a very good legit buisness, and yes I do travel south every winter. The thing that you dont know is that I own a home there and run ads in the local newspaper and yellow pages. I give free estimates and give people fair prices. I don't see the need to interogate my family with this nonsense. The people you really need to watch with your 20/20 vision is the people that are ruining our country with terroism and physcoic people here.

The scam is when they approach someone with this offer of left over asphalt and a price that you can probably fit in your budget. Then after they get going, the job gets bigger and this so called "left over materials" and "oh, we should have enough to do this little bit", turns into several trucks. If you turn your back for an instant, the job all of a sudden doubles and then they start trying to bully you into giving them more money and by twisting words around try to say you agreed to it. well today I beat the living crap out of one of them and he crawled to his truck and drove away.
