Transit villages work best if people have offices and shops close to where they live, so they can walk to the store and walk (or take bus or train) to work. A properly designed and properly negotiated transit village shouldn't make that big an impact on "traffic" (or traffic wouldn't be as big an issue), because fewer of the people would be driving. Besides, if you see a lot of new traffic, you could probably try driving around it - there are plenty of roads here in New Jersey.
