Coxsackie Virus Alert

Larchmont, NY

#1 Mar 20, 2009
My four year old son was diagnosed with the coxsackie virus. I called the director of the YMCA regarding the incident and she seemed to be annoyed by my complaint. After having been a member for going on two years at this facility, I was surprised and appalled at her attitude. This virus is extremely contagious and stems from improper management of bodily fluids in pools or public areas. Naturally, I have canceled my membership. Please be aware that this YMCA seems to have no regards for hygiene and the safety of their patrons.

I have seen a complete downfall of all staff at the YMCA in Red Bank. I will say it is especially those at the front desk. It is very disappointing . I also believe their prices are absurd.

My son was diagnosed with Coxsakie a few months back. The doctor was able to explain exactly what the virus is, but was not able to tell me where exactly my son caught the virus. He said that the virus is spread from person to person and from contaminated surfaces. I went crazy trying to figure out where we had been that week, but accepted the fact that I would never know where he caught the virus. I am interested in knowing how you are sure of where your son caught the virus.

It is terrible for any parent to watch there child suffer from any illness and my heart go's out to you.I do know that the aquatics department is absolutely fanatical about there sanitary conditions and the treatment of there pool water.Perhaps your son got the virus at another location.
I would love to here more comments about how the Red Bank ymca has taken hundreds of lower income children off the streets and gave them a safe controlled environment to be in.
I hope your son gets better very soon
never again

NEVER will I go back to this Red Bank YMCA! Staff is rotten! INCONSISTENT implementation of RULES (as if you will read their handbook from cover to cover!) keeps you surprised, but not in a good way!

You can't blame all staff for your frustration. There are some very nice people working at the YMCA. Maybe you're rotten for not wanting to follow their rules.

Good for you! Your Y might be way better than mine, because after all, you're located in Staten Island, right? You should consider that you don't have a single idea as to what exactly transpired at my Y that made me and my family feel in distress. Do you think I would go out of my way writing a not-so-good comment if I had a great experience? It's not my thing! I believe in KARMA..thank God I'm not so bothered now!

"KARMA" sounds like you have an axe to grind? The Red Bank Y has nice people working and has a great record of cleanliness and facility upgrades. There is no better place for a family to belong.

Sadly, while there are many employees of the Red Bank Ymca who do seem to be quite lovely, there are still others who are employed in management level positions who are impossibly rude and arrogant without reason. It seems as though they need not fear complaints due to the fact that they are the individuals who are in charge. The facility's construction improvements ARE quite nice but other than the pools, what do they have?

I wish that I had read this blog before wasting my money on my membership. It is not an axe to grind that makes this person write what they are writing, they are trying to warn others. Nastiness is unnecessary and a professional person would explain why they disagree. Either you are an employee or are the friend of an employee. The upgrades are not ADA compliant and it is now 2012 and they have done many renovations that require this. Sadly the person who writes about karma will somday experience karma him or herself. Godspeed to you.

Ref: red bank ymca, The front desk staff is very rude, I like the facility, but hate to see the front desk staff. That needs to be changed. Front desk is customer service, should be pleasant... Ugh
