To Been there, Done That & Disgusted,
Your comments are insensitive to this tragic situation. Regardless of your assumption that this young man's death was alchohol related, your lack of compassion is disgusting. May you never experience the loss of a loved one tragically. Get a grip!8025
I guess in your haste to hop on the judgmental bandwagon, "CONCERNED", you missed the part about my sympathy for the family and friends of the deceased.
Why is suggesting that people take responsibility for their own lives considered a "lack of compassion" and why is this so "insensitive" and "disgusting" to you?
As for the discussion being about alcohol and college regulations - I was replying to a hypothetical situation mentioned in the first post - in case you missed that, as well. As far as I know, the actual cause of death of the unfortunate Lafayette student has not been publicized.
BTW: how can you arrogantly assume I've never lost a loved one due to poor choices in life? I have.
Do I wish my loved one hadn't a made really dumb decision over 22 years ago? Of course I do, every hour of every day... but I don't blame his death on the person who sold him the booze, the condition of the roads, the drinking laws in PA at the time, his boss who expected him to show up for work the next day, his friends who were as immature as he was, or the vehicle he smashed into a tree. He made a very bad choice in life and paid the ultimate price for it.
Unfortunately, when a person dies from other than natural causes, especially at a young age, there will be public speculation which can get a bit morbid at times. It is one of those things - it isn't nice but it happens. You'll have to "get a grip" on how much you want to allow it to affect you.
