Does anyone out there in Oxford know what really went down with the recent Special Election Referendum election for the proposed YMCA Pool & Fitness Center project? The election was so close -- 205 against vs. 161 votes for. Why were the people against the project so nasty? It really got ugly and confusing. Was the opposition about race, class, the expense, the town land, the perception of having 'outsiders' come to town, the commissioners, or all of the above? What happened and why?
