Bob Smith Automotive closed. Assets seized.Denny hospitalized

Major rumor. Friday was Bob Smith's Automotive's last day in busines,at least under present management. They owe GM alot of money for their large inventory which of course is not selling.This week Gm came in seized the dealership and inventory. They had CEO Lee Denny escorted from the premises. They also seized some property in St Michaels that Denny had used the dealership as collateral to buy.Many have noticed that Denny behavior has become increasingly disturbing includig a drunken episode at the Green Turtle in Easton which only his position in the community prevented him from being thrown out.Denny is suposedly at Shoe Health's Waterside treatment center in Cambridge suffering from nervous breakdown symptoms. Need more input on the talk of the town.

I had heard a little bit different . I was told he tried to do himself in Friday night that is why he is Waterside, I mean come on when someone tries to kill their selves that is where they send them. Bur I know the man personally unfortunately and he has way to much ego to do that and arrogance this should humble him up some. They said too he has lost his house his boats, not sure about the marina he owns though, hope everything works out there because he has someone in there with a 10 year lease and they have done so much work to the place it would be
a shame for them people to lose all that. I don't know, Lee could have avoided this in so many way's but to tell you the truth, could have not happened to a better person. Sorry, I call them as I see them, and Lee only cares about Lee, has always been that way.

I have not had any dealings with Lee Denny but I have spoken with his wife on a number of occasions and she could not be a nicer person. Please keep her and their children in your prayers.......it sounds like they need them!

oh you people crack me up I love the rumor mill Lee in not at the funny farm under suicide watch nor was he escorted by police from the dealership I would know because I was there now as an former employee it did leave a lot of good people and there families in a bad way and we all do appreciate the support and prayers of the community

I agree with "unemployed". You all are like a bunch of little school girls with gossip to tell. Lee was not on suicide watch or escorted off the property. I, too, was an employee. When Lee was doing well everyone seemed to be his "friend". Now that he seems to be having financial difficulty he has no "friends"? I also think certain family members of his needs to support him a little more instead of sitting back making jokes of the whole situation. I appreciate the support from the community from the obvious victims of this downfall...the unemployed. There are certain people that took care of his dealership as if it were their own, and really cared about what happened to the employees. They know who they are and as a former employee I say THANK YOU!

Im a subcontractor who serviced the dealership for the entire time it was in business and this is a big tragedy that couldn't come at a worse time leaving countless people without jobs & income when there aren't any to be had ,these people have mortgages & families to feed who did a great job & cared about the quality of work they did & showed pride in their work as well, only to loose their jobs from no fault of their own. Ive enjoyed working with the employees at bob smith automotive & have supported my family as well with the income . Any one who would wish ill of lee or say that he deserves this is a poor excuse of a human being not realizing how many people are hurt by this situation,im sure some may loose their homes who have worked hard their entire lives because of the lack of jobs .I hope this works out so everybody can go back to work ,your all in my prayers , sincerely Charlie Jarrell PRES C & K GLASS

How can you feel sorry for Lee, he did not pay his interest, so it is his fault all those jobs and families are going to suffer.

On Friday, I telephoned the Star Democrat's news room to enquire why the newspaper has made NO press report about the closing -- even after one week. I was told their reporters have been stonewalled by GM both locally and nationally. Sounds fishy. The newspaper should print something about it soon so the paper itself does not appear to be stonewalling.

I quess the main reason it has not been printed is because techniclly its not closed the dealership is in an contractual dispute with GMAC now I relize its a play on words most all employees layed off and not operating persay but aslong as someone is there doors are open its techniclly not closed so the paper is not stonewalling they have to deal in fact

it is interesting to see the views of people who really don't know anything about what is going on. I worked at the GM Giant for several years and losing my income has been no picnic. What really gets me is the number of people who have sat in a bar and had a round of drinks on Lee, or gone to one of the many July 4th fireworks displays that he put tons of money into, but turn their backs, or worse, kick him, now that he is down. I don't necessarily mean to defend Lee Denny, he has his faults, but how many people other than his former employees and vendors, have a reason to be upset with him? The one thing I have not heard said is the fact that the current economy, as much as anything else, has played a major role in the drama. How many people decided this past year not to purchase a new car or truck because they were scared about their current employer or income? Let someone take 1/2 or more of your income away and expect you to pay all your current bills on time!
By the way, GMAC has taken control of the inventory at 38 dealers in the Northeast region alone. And, 1 out of every 4 or 5 dealerships is expected to close by the end of 2009.

That's why we have blogs and people like you, Also Unemployed-Hurlock, to give us the skinny so we can become informed -- and then know what is going on. We should all remember, "But for the grace of God go I." Yes, Lee Denny has had a big ego and need to show himself to be a big wheel/deal.(That may mask insecurity.) But at the same time, and/or because of it, he has also been a major, generous contributor to the community in so many ways for a very long time. He deserves our compassion and support not our derision.

My husband and I bought both our vechiles at Bob Smith Automotive. I have dealt with them for the past five and a half years and always had great service. I never dealt with Lee Denny personelly but his staff was great. I am so sorry that the dealership is gone and am not sure where I will another place where I can get the same great service as I got there.

Enquiring minds you sound like you might be one of Denny's A.A. buddies, that is one of their fav sayings when someone falls off the wagon....LOL.
So I guess you all can blame it on the alcohol too!!! Among other things!!!

Hey, Davey Jones, wow, what a nasty thing to imply about Lee Denny. It doesn't sound like you have a lot of love in your heart. "But for the Grace of God go I" is a reminder that we could be in another person's shoes. We never know what is truly going on in another person's life and what burdens they bear. Sometimes we have a hard time understanding what is going on in our own life. Have a little compassion, a little kindness of heart, will 'ya? It isn't about AA, which fortunately am not a member as I am not an alcoholic. It is about having a little empathy, wisdom, and perception gained from age and experience -- to be able to see beyond what is apparent.

The only person you should be sorry for Mike is yourself for making such evil statements.
