What a rotten thing to say about something you know NOTHING about. My cousin has been running and hiding from this psycho for months, he finds her and beats the living tar out of her, she has literally begged for her life. Let's just ignore the fact that he kept violating the protection order against him and going back to jail (several times) for it. That night he was brutally attacking her again and she showed the gun to try and make him leave, it accidentally fired and she's in jail now. It's an extremely SAD situation where the victim is made out to look like the criminal. You go ahead and make a joke out it, out of young broken hearted children who's mother is not home during the holidays, out of a tramic situation our family has been dealing with, out of my family's pain... I hope you amused yourself, but it was quite a hurtful thing to say.

That is a horrible situation. I hope she can work it out for her and the kid's sake. I was only joking about the southerners thing as I am from G.C. also. If I have hurt you or your family by my comment than I apologize.

It's better to be in jail then dead. These guys are killing their wifes and girlfriends all the time. Protection order means nothing to them and the police will do very little to help. Had she not shot him I'm sure she would be just another statistic, murdered by the ex. She should be given a medal and put on a speaking tour on how to advise other women to protect themselves.

I apologize for responding so harshly. She was recently bonded out and has another court date coming up. Her doctor has sent a file to her lawyer doccumenting all the times she came in with bruises and such, that will hopefully help her case too. The guy is out of the hospital and already boozing it up, probably planning some horrible revenge on her. These kind of men are so dangerous and just like you said, until my cousin ends up dead they'll just keep pushing her to the side. At least she's home for now. Please forgive my previous post. I wish you Happy and Healthy Holidays.

I’m trying to understand you post but it’s a little difficult. Is it related to the topic above? Specifically "This bitch stop and almost hit my little girl and call my 5 year every name in the book." & “My dad dead in jail and was put there for nothing." Would you care to elaborate? |

I don't have a dog in this fight but I feel like I have to defend the police who arrested the shooter. When the police respond to a SHOOTING and encounter a BLEEDING person who has been SHOT they need to get that person some help and, in the majority of cases, arrest the shooter. Police do not have all the information right there at the scene. They do not know who has protection orders against whom. They do not know about a history of violence between the shooter and victim. They do not know right then if it was an accident or not. AND THEY CANNOT TAKE THE WORD OF THE SHOOTER ON THE MATTER. They have to arrest the shooter and then INVESTIGATE the case to determine the facts.
Imagine if it were the other way around and the boyfriend in this case deliberately shot the girlfriend and, when the police arrived, told the police "Oh, it was a terrible accident." Imagine then the police accepted the boyfriend's explanation and did no further investigation. The girlfriend would justifiably be outraged at the lack of action by police. Police do the best they can under bad circumstances with very limited resources. |

This is for anonymous, I disagree as to whether the police would have the knowledge about protection orders or a history of domestic violence calls. Typically, if comes down to a shooting by a woman against her spouse, she has long been abused. Yes I agree official court ordered protection orders are worth the paper they're written on......if the violater is determinmed. If she has been abused, then neighbors and relatives would have knowledge of the fighting. I don't know what you mean by "I don't have a dog in this fight". Sometimes someone just can't take any more abuse and they DEFEND themselves, finally! And I agree that the cops are inept and corrupt and filled with ranks of cops and judges, small town crap, that are unjust and biased and cronyism and nepotism!

Tina, I gather she was your sister and I feel for you. These backwoods rednecks and cavemen need to learn that their wives and girlfriends are not their chattel and learn to appreciate the women in their lives. I grew up in Oscoda and I know how this good ole' boy, nepotism and cronyism crap works. If it's a respected working man from the area, if he beats his wife or girlfriend than their attitude is well there must have been a reason and maybe NEXT time we'll arrest or Enforce a court order. The whole of upper MI needs to get on the ball with domestic violence and cats and dogs humane treatment and sterilization. Peace out!

Masart, while this post is difficult to read I do understand the feeling of injustice here. I assume this person feels that there is a great divide between the haves and the have nots living in this area. I would have to agree with some of the posts that express that same opinion. It is not a great mystery that the legal (meaning court system, the police departments, etc) system in this area seems to be corrupt. One just needs to pick up the paper to see the inequality of how our court system works; the haves get off while the have nots serve time in jail for minor infractions. It has always seemed to be that way around here. It's too bad because the real victims here are the youth who see this. I have known some kids who have gone to court over some very serious issues but because their parents are part of the "haves" they have gotten off with very little punishment. I have seen other kids go to court over what I would consider some very minor issue but because their parents are part of the "have nots" they have gotten the most severe of the punishments dealt out. It doesn't seem fair. So when one sees a domestic violence victim become a victim of the system as well, it doesn't make sense. Our current legal system needs to change but it won't until people become outraged enough to have the courage to stand up for what is right. We need to. We are all vunerable. No one is exempt from a tragedy happening to them. |

I agree she should get a medal and not be in jail at all, the system sucks and doesn't protect the victim but the prep! Been through all this with restraining orders and no one helping when we need it, be thank-ful she is not in Garfield County Colorado because the deptartment here is so crooked they just turn their heads to the victims and allow the preps to go free |

a piece of paper does not stop bullets, and what the hell do the police have to do with protecting your family, all a formality shoot and make sure they land in the house. Very easy resolution to the problem...
