There should be a common sense test given to all recruits before hiring. What a joke of a cop.

OK how ridiculous was that police officer, is he not trained well enough to see an actual emergency right under his nose? Suspended?? Give me a break, take his badge and let him do a job where he doesnt require use of his freakin brain! Idiot! Thank God the lady is recovering.

I think they are training them to be that way now. Have you read about the people in Solon who were abused because the looked to be middle aged to the cops. Looked 12 - 14 to me. I know - support your local cops. Not when they act like storm troopers. Sorry.

If you would have read he slowed at the red lights and went through them after he deemed that it was safe to. Really don't be stupid. I have known people that have made it because instead of waiting on an ambulance which can take forever they rushed to the ER. I love how you put "in all likelyhood was not an emergency" ... if someone you care about shows signs of stroke, heart attack, etc.. and you are close enough to take them to the hospital would you not do the same? Or would you just wait it out to see if it's bad enough that they need to go..of course by the time you make your decision it may be to late.

He should have provided an escort.
That's what they do in the movies.

Too bad police don't have commons sense. I see it all the time on Cops how they treat people with no respect. If someone gets on the ground as you ask but doesn't want to stick their face in the mud or the dirt. Have respect and handcuff them but don't jump on their back and drive their face in the ground.

I just moved back to Cleveland from Louisville. The Louisville police are very respectful. I've watched them take people down before and they were very firm but polite. They told this guy to lay on the ground, he did but only went to his knees. The officer went over to him while another officer covered him with his gun. The other officer placed the cuffs on him but didn't drive him into the ground before doing it.

They should post those on Cops and use them as training.

This is crazy. This has happened before and I think police need to use more common sense. Like others have said, the car pulled into the hospital. If they got in there and they found out there was not a real emergency. . . arrest the driver. But really, I think some police are on power trips.

I am so glad to hear that the woman is okay, and that she will recover from the stoke.

This question shouldn't have to be asked. He was just trying to save his wife's life! Of course he was acting irrationally, how would any of us act in the same situation if it was one of our loved ones.

In this situation the Officer was wrong. But a car running red lights isn't always and emergency. When the officer saw that he was heading the hosptials direction he should have realized that something was wrong and provided an escort. But he is human. We all are. I am glad to hear that the woman is okay and that no one got hurt.

I have seen people cause accidents while trying to do what this man did and someone was killed in one of those accidents.(I have worked in emergency services for over 20 years.)So it is you and this gentleman who shouldn't be stupid.I stated in another post that when EMS is called only 10% of those calls are actually dispatched as emergencies.Out of those 10% only 10% are actually real emergencies when EMS arrives.Doing the math that means only 1% of EMS calls are real emergencies so there was a 99% chance that this was not a real emergency. Putting other lives in danger was STUPID and it doesn't matter how he drove.Emergency vehicles have been hit by inattentive drivers while using lights and sirens so this man could have been hit.Paramedics, had they been called, could have determined that there was no need to proceed through red lights and noone else would have been put in danger. The question wasn't whether she needed to go to the hospital but getting her there without endangering others.
Protect and serve means to do the most good for the most people. This officer was trying to protect everyone not just this one person.Nobody got hurt and that's good, but what if this guy had hit you while driving this way.Would you still say the officer was wrong ? Of course not;you would say why didn't the officer stop him and call EMS.

While I agree with your general point that many people are unqualified to decide what is a medical emergency and can endanger others rushing to a hospital BUT ... if you read more about the situation (here is the CNN article http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/06/22/tennessee.po... ) you will learn that the guy *is* an Emergency Paramedic himself (and the woman is an ER nurse). They are exactly the people who decide whether something is an emergency or not. The person had numbness on one side of the body and facial paralysis/droop. They were specifically warned of the danger of stroke due to the woman's bout with cancer (which already cost her a leg).

I understand the original article was a bit short on details so I understand your point about this in general

Wrong again, You have got to be a cop!! Where are you getting these figures from? When someone I love is in trouble, you can shove the mediocore percentages you know where. If I'm close enough I'm not waiting. You be the dummy and wait, 911 is a joke. You see where the older gentleman was robbed and called multiple times and got a busy signal. Now you wait while they warm up the lunch in the microwave but me I getting there as fast as I can!!

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Sagittarius

You're feeling ultra optimistic today, which is great for summoning up the necessary energy to do what has to be done. But don't let it go to your head and convince you that you're capable of performing miracles. If you aren't behaving in this way you'll have to cope with someone who has a swollen head and thinks they're the cat's whiskers.
