We can't do enough for veterans within reason! How is it fair to the other SPECIAL NEEDS people who can trace their legal problems to all the things that cause their legal problems?

The pertinent question is: When is Vermont going to secede from the republic?
Whatever

When are we going to hold people accountable for their own decisions instead of enabling them to blame others?

Breaking the law is a choice.

Of course war is traumatic. Jeez, we just figuring that out?

Maybe the U.S. Government needs to spend that money
helping war veterans transition back into civilian society, at least better than they have been doing.

We spend the time and energy preparing them to go to war through boot camps. How about spending the same time and energy preparing them to enter back into society?

I personally know veterans (yes, more than one) who have been diagnosed with post traumatic stress of various degrees. These good people have served their country and suffer silently with the psychological problems directly caused by their time in war. Far too often, the only time these people get help is when it gets to the point where they are arrested, become alcoholics, or can no longer function normally on a daily basis. Historically, the military has frowned on psychological care, and although they have gotten better, the stigma remains.
I’m not sure that a separate court is necessary but I am definitely sure that our veterans with PTSD deserve special consideration. I do agree that our government needs to do more to help soldiers transition back into society successfully and they fail miserably at doing so.
I am disturbed by the level of ignorance expressed here and the lack of compassion for those who serve. Get educated, experience it first hand, and then tell me if you think it’s a crock.

Let's start helping them before the court systam needs to get involved. This is long over due but why wait until these guys and gals get in trouble how about when they step off that plane back on American soil. Alot of these people are coming back to empty bank accts, familys that have moved on without them and children they don't know. Nothing like being a stranger in your own land. We can only imagine what they have seen or done you can't walk in their shoes unless you've been there.

I agree Vermont transplant but it sounds like the state has found a way to make a buck off of the tough situation these people have fallen into! Help each and every one of them as soon as they get back but if down the road something bad happens we have to treat them equal like everyone else!

I see it is time for a classic hits post:

SHAFT THE BLOATED BLOGGER
(Sung to the tune of Puff The Magic Dragon)
(With lyric credit to the REAl real Vermonter)

Shaft The Bloated Blogger
Lives in a tree
And wallows in his emptiness
In a land called 'Look at me!'

The intelligent forum bloggers
Would cringe when Shaft logged on
And bravely weathered the insanity
Til Shaft they knew was gone

The wise bloggers ignored Shaft
Hoping she would just go away
But Blogosaurus never took the hint, instead
Kept blogging with nothing to say

The smart opinion posters
Would wince when 'ere the saw Shaft's name
No one dared entertain the rants
'Cause its not wise to acknowledge the inane

Shaft would waste the hours
Making post after stupid post
Never realizing
Everyone knew she was just a joke

Then one day it happened
The Topix forum was no more
And Shaft that Blogosaurus
Ceased her mind numbing bore

Shaft's keyboard silenced forever
No forum to post her c rap
So Shaft the Bloated blogger
Did what she does best...nap

Shaft's nonsensical posts went unanswered
Her green scales fell like rain
Shaft no longer could go out and play
Along the cyber lane

Shaft stuffed her face in sorrow
Pork rinds fell like rain
Shaft no longer had the place
Where she was a gigantic pain

Without her anonymity, Shaft could not be brave
So Blogoppatumus that self-righteous hypocrite
Limped back to her dingy cave

Oh, Shaft The Bloated Blogger
Lives in a tree
And wallows in his emptiness
In a land called 'Look at me!'

Shaft The Bloated Blogger
Was outed on these posts
With its identity finally revealed
Shaft headed for the coast

Once its true identity was given
Shaft made a final hasty post
Then tucked its tail between its legs
And faded like a ghost

We learned its name is Gary
A pathetic loser of a man
Whose life went from the fire
Into the frying pan

Shaft came back and tried to deny it
Saying Gary was not him and such
But smart bloggers knew much better
'Cause Shaft (Gary) doth protest too much

Shaft denies and says he's not Gary
The lousy ex-cop who is oh so fat
But the proof is in the bloggings

And as you say 'Good luck with that!'
