Now is the time for all of us Oneonta citizens to be proud again. We have the opportunity to elect a young mayor who has the ability to improve the city. Jason Corrigan sees the clear issues and responsibilities of a Mayor. He has spoken several times in public about the responsibilities of the yearly residents as well as the student body residents. * He recognizes the living conditions of the low income and poor constituents of Oneonta. * He is keenly aware that Oneonta can position itself as a desired destination for travelers and families on a year round basis. * He addresses the fact that city government in Oneonta is stale and is in dire need of getting young professionals involved with city goverment. * He addresses the fact that the best and brightest minds from local universities choose to abandon residence after graduation because the current town government is provincial and lacks the imagination and motivation to set goals for redevelopment of jobs, housing, and citizenship for Oneonta. * The city is in such disarray they can't organize themselves to hire new personnel for positions such as bus drivers, code enforcement,---even a dog catcher position. Friends and citizens of Oneonta, these are not tall order items. If our local council people and Mayor can't do these tasks you need to ask yourself, who can. Because running city government is about effectiveness, efficiency, and good policy. I don't see any of this in the other candidates nor do I see this with the current people who are handling city affairs.

I hope this young man succeeds. We need some new blood in this town. If we keep voting in the same old people, how can we get new ideas? It just doesn't make sense. This is why we are in the same position each election cycle. Downtown is planned poorly, and jobs are scarce. I say let's see what this new guy can do.

I agree completely, the status quo is not an imaginary entity. It's very real, and it's the reason why our city has been stuck for the last ten to twenty years. We need a new face and Corrigan is our shot at bringing new ideas into our community.

I don't think anyone disagrees with the fact that Rick Miller has the business experience in this election. However, I do think that we also elected John Nader and many others who were supposed to improve our community based on their credentials. This clearly hasn't happened and I really believe that Corrigan needs to win just so we can at least throw off our normal government and give us a real chance for change.

Why is Alderman Miller running? Does anyone think he can actually run a city based off of his well-documented temper and personal problems at home? How come the Democrats are allowing Rick Miller to run on their line? As a Republican, it's annoying to see my party pick Erik, a guy who passes almost all fiscal resolutions and is an environmentalist. And Rick Miller, who is a Republican, waltz's on the Democratic ticket? And the only reason he isn't headlining the show, is because Corrigan doesn't care and is standing up to the status quo. Not bad for being 21 years old! I'm glad we have someone who is finally standing up and trying to make a real difference! We can already see our officials are trying to go about politics as usual just based off of each party's endoresment. Good luck Jason!

Why are the Democrats allowing Rick Miller on their ballot when he isn't a Democrat? He isn't even an Independent, he is a Republican! This makes me think that they truly are worried about the student running for mayor and bringing out some of their dirty laundry, why else wouldn't they want to support: 1. An already registered Democrat, which Corrigan is, and 2. A fresh face to inspire hope. These are Democrats, they just backed their first black president and now they won't take a 21 year old student, just because of his age? Please, If Jason or anyone with a mind reads this, SHOW THE STATUS QUO WHO WE ARE AND GET THEM OUT OF ONEONTA!!!

I saw an article today posted by the Albany Times Union that covered Jason, his background, and some of his goals and ideas. Every time this young man is in the papers, he is always outlined and described as mature, professional, and full of energy. These are all great qualities but I really like how he mentioned he will being heart and drive to the position if elected. I really feel this is one of the most important aspects of him with being mayor as we have had way too much of the same old thing in our local government. I wish the best of luck and I will be voting for this young man!

I just think it's great we have three candidates to choose from. As cited by The Daily Star a while back, three candidates from different backgrounds is great for democracy and our community.

Great article today in the Times Union! I would certainly like more attention throughout the sate for Oneonta, and if Jason can do that, then my vote is with him.

There is a real movement building for Jason Corrigan. Ten by Ten, this is how we are going to help Jason. Every one has to ask ten other friends for a ten dollar contribution, and then each one of the ten ask another ten. All donations can be sent directly to the Jason Corrigan for Mayor of Oneonta, please visit www.unifyingoneonta.com

Ya know, Erik has done a decent job with his positions too. The mussel clean up was successful and he is a local member of the community. Why does everyone think Jason is the future of the community? I think Oneonta is doing just fine the way it is.

Sir, I have to disagree with you that Oneonta is doing fine. Maybe your life is career is fine in Oneonta but you are most likely in the minority. 1. School taxes just went up and enrollment is down. 2. The city has failed to collect rents due to them in the tens of thousands. 3. The mayor and the common council are creating punitive legislation against homeowners and business owners rather than solve problems from an economically viable perspective. I don't think Erik Miller is a bad guy here....he is rather humdrum and lethargic on the real issues. However I understand that he is going through a crisis with his marriage right now, so maybe he thinks being Mayor will relieve him of his personal problems and stress. Good luck to him.

I agree completely and those points you made are matters of public information and very real. However, can you actually produce your evidence for the city failing to collect rents? In addition, why is Erik trying to run for mayor if he is going through marital problems? Shouldn't he focus on his family before trying to repair the community? How are we supposed to believe that he can take care of the community if he can't even take care of his personal life? I also wanted to say something about Rick Miller. The Times Union posted a story about New York's billionaire Tom Gullisano, who is Rick's good friend. Apparently, in order to save money from taxes, about 5 million dollars, Tom is leaving New York to go to Florida. This, amongst many other assocaites of Rick, are not people that I trust and are people that have not been upfront with its people. Is Rick like this too?

Hey Margaret

Why is everyone so about this kid? Everywhere I look there are nothing by positive comments about Corrigan running for mayor. In the papers, the radio, blogs, everywhere. If you google his name and mayor together, there are three blogs and tons of comments to articles all talking about how "Corrigan is the future" and "Corrigan is an impressive leader" and blah blah blah. Corrigan is 21 years old and a college student. Doesn't anyone think that this matters? And for Margaret, have you met with Corrigan, are you forgetting that Erik Miller is a real member of the community? Erik a great guy who I know personally, and I think he has a very real attitude about the community. Stop trying to make Corrigan out to be the Obama for the Oneonta. He is a punk and I can't wait for him to get to the debates so everyone can see how much of a kid he is.

I have seen Jason debate at school and negotiate when organizing an event, and Jason is by no means a kid. I don't know how he will do and I wanna see more before I decide who I want to vote for, but Jason is a strong person who will, and already has come ready for this election.

Well, there are plenty of opinions here. Let's keep the dialogue active and vote for the person we want to have as mayor of Oneonta.
That is the democratic process, even in Oneonta.

Whoever was the one to say Jason is a punk needs to get in line with reality. Whether you like him or not, unless YOU are running for mayor, then you need to respect his cause because if you really think that you can do a better job, I would leave him and the other's alone and stick to facts, not opinions.

If you read any of Corrigan's blogs you will only see positive comments. That is because, as blog administrator, he deletes anything negative. Is this really the type of person who should be in government? He has lived here for only a couple of semesters - never owned a home, never paid proerty taxes, never had full time paid employment(no..being a stundent is not the same thing..I went to cellege and earned a MS), raised a family...and we could go on and on. How can anyone, other a student, seriously think this kid could run this city. He does not know the city and has little life experince. He latest youtube post wasn't even recorded in Oneonta, it was done in his hometown of Clifton Park. Is Corrigan going to go "home for the summer" when he is mayor?

Our former leaders had homes, paid taxes, and had full time jobs and guess what, Oneonta is still in the same place it has always been. I have seen the idea that Jason also deletes comments before, but I think you giving off the idea that he takes the time to create blogs when all I see are articles about how he has met with students and many other events around Oneonta. With that, how can you say he is at home when he has been in the paper for being in Oneonta, speaking to students, and working with non profit groups. You people are so afraid of change that it really only hurts you and the community in the long run. I think if you really step back and look at your complaints, you will see they are actually good things. He doesn't have a family or full time job, that means he has more time to commit to the city. Doesn't pay property taxes but takes out thousands in loans that give tax revenue to Oneonta. Doesn't have years of experience in Oneonta, but neither do the other candidates really and overall, I would rather vote for a student who has an understanding of our needs and problems rather than a guy who is friends with millionaires and the other who is going to get angry at every criticism.
