A motorvehicle of any kind is an inanimate object until some fool gets in or on it. The problems start there and then. All should remember at all times, that they are in charge of a deadly wepon death is an unavoidable outcome for some. All drivers riders make mistakes it is the human condition also there is mecanical failure to consider. So the best you can do is drive defensivly curtiously and calmly .Its far beter to arive late than never to arive at all. And just spare a small thought for thaose who are left to griev and wonder why.

I was attending to the now deceased gentleman, right after this accident.
I'm a biker myself so when I saw him laying there, I was compelled to stop and help. Unfortunately when I got to him, the damage was so devastating and he was already dead.
This gentleman had a half helmet. A half helmet only covers your skull as opposed to a full face helmet. From the position he was in, one could clearly see that he had fallen face first unto the pavement. It's easily conjectured that this is what killed him.
I urge all bikers to wear a full face helmet. The half helmet is virtually useless in a motorcycle accident. A full face WILL save your life.
Please be respectful when addressing this gentleman. I reckon I will be haunted by the absolutely gruesome scene for the rest of my life, I felt like vomiting all day and hardly slept at all.
I personally have a motorcycle because of the high gas prices and because I enjoy it. Having said that, yesterdays accident has left a mark on me. No doubt about that.
Since no one else seemed to pay attention to your message, I want to say "Thank You" for stopping and trying. I'm also a rider. Been riding over 30 years. I try to stop whenever I see a bike/biker on the side of the road. Accident or not.

I wear a 3/4 helmet with a face shield. Ride 210 & 57 (spent a lot of years on the 605) I hate the rocks and gravel that hit you in the face...

I've been down with a full-face and I've been down with a half-shell. Different type of conditions. Both did what they were designed to do...

Jesse, as we referred to him, was my friend. He was a great and caring guy with two kids (a boy and a girl) who will miss him.
Those of you that feel this is the perfect time to start your sh*t talking and spew your anger really need to step back and keep your comments to yourselves. I hope you don't have to live through such a tragedy in order to learn to have sympathy and consideration for others.
Thanks to those that have taken a moment to express sympathy and especially to the guy that tried to help.
Thank you for that tidbit of information. I haven't stopped thinking about him since I was there next to him. I remember him vividly and for the past days, I've been wondering what kind of man he was and whether he had family. The night after the accident I found myself weeping, like i have never cried before.
I was inconsolable and couldn't help but think of how devastated everybody he touched, would be. It feels like such a waste for him to pass like that and I feel absolutely horrible for you.
Perhaps you might find comfort in knowing that in his final moments, I was there holding his hand and that he was not alone. Also know that he did not suffer.
Pay no mind to anybody elses anger spewing. They are just chosing the wrong forum for their endless angst.
May his family and friends somehow find the strength to make it through this.

Thank yo right back Dino. You're clearly very, very experienced and the fact you're still riding after 30 years attests to that. I"ll see you on the roads and rest assure that if someday I drive by you and you're in any kind of need. I will stop.

I am an RN who has held the hand of a person as they pass. It is a horrible experience when it happens. But it should also bring you a sense of peace that you were there. If not this young man would have died feeling alone and scared. You gave him peace and comfort in his last moments

I would like to thank GATO for all those nice things he said of my BIG BROTHER JESSE R.I.P 07/22/2008. I heard about the blogs and tried looking, found the page and here I am. My brother Jesse was a wondurful brother, son, and above all the GREATEST DAD! Let's not forget he was also the greatest friend to those who got to meet him... Jesse always had a huge smile on his face no matter how bad his days were. It has been very hard to accept the fact that he is no longer with his loving family and friends, but I thank God for not leaving him all by himself the day of the accident and I also thank YOU for being there and having the gutts to let it out and be known that you held his hand in his time to GO... The Family of Jose (Jesse) would like to know more about the accident... If you can please email me and it can be more one on one....

I passed by this scene today. I was very sad and grieved to see this poor man's body covered with a tarp. He was most probably going to work like everyone else - just trying to do his best to earn a living in this day of high gas prices and high food prices.
Everyone should take a moment and say a short prayer for this soul - a fellow human being - which passed on tragically today so that he may be in peace. And, also a prayer for any family members that now are left with the loss of their brother, cousin, husband, son or friend.
The highway patrol have a very difficult job, and seeing them take command and control of this dreadful situation today reminded me of the difficult job they have. They see it every day - the wrecks (fatal or otherwise), and seeing them have to deal with this reminded me that their job is not an easy one.
THank you for the thoughts and understanding how hard it is now days to make it through this economy... The Family thanks you for the thoughts and prayers...and may God Bless You!

I'm just an old fat guy on a Harley...

Been on a scooter a lot of years and am always concerned about anyone on a bike.

Prayers go out to the family and friends of this man. Sounds like he was a good guy...

i know a biker who lost his balls in a motorcycle accident. the gas cap ripped them off whe he slid up on the gas tank. another lost his leg when a car t boned his engine. he thought that raising his leg up would keep him from getting smashed, but the crappy harley davidson engine punched his othr leg when the car hit him. he went flying one way and his leg the other. LOL!
