Hoping to bring commuter traffic to the city, the City Council is considering hiring a lobbyist to promote the Whittier coalition preferred route of Washington Blvd. for the extension of the Gold Line commuter rail system.
That route has support from the cities of Commerce, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, the Whittier Chamber of Commerce, Whittier College and area school districts. However, cities supporting the Washington Boulevard alignment have disagreed on hiring a lobbyist, at an estimated cost of $3,000 to $4,000 a month, Whittier Assistant City Manager Nancy Mendez noted.
Montebello is promoting the Pomona Freeway (60) route and has hired a lobbyist, Mike Roos and Company, to lobby with county, state and federal officials for that route, Mendez said.

This is the first I have heard about this contract. Does anyone know how much Montebello is paying, and whether this contract went out for RFP, RFQs?

SCE ROW south to UP East to existing bridges over river and 605 all the way to Brea is the best route
Just SCE and UP to agree. 60 freeway route leads nowhere best not to build anything Would Mall traffic alone justify this project? |

Judged: 1 1 1 Mall traffic alone, probably not. Montebello wants two stops in Montebello, one around Garfield for the two shopping areas at Wilcox, and one for the Mall and Town Square areas. That might barely justify that route for Metro standards. Btw, the new line of heavy duty pylons is really progressing along San Gabriel. When do the high voltage lines come through? Do you see the large gap on the Rio Hondo Bridge? Looks to me like a potential breakage apot in a major earthquake. |

Putting up a very big pole next to the old farmhouse today. I'll check the bridge
Lots of good infor in the comments on Whittier Oil Project. Still the businesses near via campo and Garfield get nuked either way. Check out the SCE North South ROW through Montebello lots of room there |

Judged: 1 1 1 I haven't really been watching this too closely, so thanks for the info. I didn't even know that there was a SR60 coalition. The story makes it sound like Montebello is standing alone against the crowd, thanks again for giving accurate AND more complete information. |

CONFLICT WITH GOLD LINE EXTENSION Commerce Opposes Planned Truck-Only Lanes On the 60 Freeway By Elizabeth Hsing-Huei Chou, EGP Staff Writer Commerce recently joined other cities in opposing a plan to build truck-only lanes on the 60 Pomona Freeway. Officials said there was not enough outreach or consideration of the impacts prior to a decision to settle on lanes near or along the 60 Freeway. The truck-only lanes were proposed for a five-mile stretch of the 60 Freeway between the I-710 and the I-605 freeways as part of a 2012 long-range plan by the Southern California Council of Governments, a regional planning agency. Commerce city council approved a resolution against the 60-freeway alignment on Nov 15. City planning officials say SCAG met once with city staff in April and provided no follow-up information on potential property impacts. Meanwhile SCAG “refused” to consider truck-only freight lanes on the I-91, I-10, and I-210 freeways, say Commerce officials. The 60-freeway alignment was chosen due to an assumption that it would result in the least impact on homes and private property, but Commerce officials said they were never consulted to confirm that this would be true. Now that it is part of SCAG’s long-range plan, the 60-freeway alignment could get special consideration for future project funding, said Commerce Assistant Director of Planning Alex Hamilton. The planned truck lanes could potentially be built as double-decker lanes through East Los Angeles, Commerce, Montebello, and Pico Rivera. SCAG says those lanes would be dedicated to zero-emission vehicles, but some members of the public at the Nov. 15th Commerce council meeting had doubts the lanes would be used exclusively by zero-emission vehicles. SCAG approved the inclusion of the 60-freeway alignment into its long-range plan during a Nov. 3 meeting. The long-range plan is still awaiting an environmental impact study. Several projects, including the Metro Eastside light rail extension project, the high speed rail project, and the Alameda Corridor East project, are competing for the right to build on the 60 Freeway. SCAG Executive Director Hasan Ikhrata told EGP on Tuesday they plan on doing more outreach, but said he could not be sure how many times they met with Commerce officials. He says the truck-only lanepas the potential of being financed through tolls, or other sources “that have not been identified.” Ikhrata said they chose the 60 Freeway over other east to west corridors because of the high volume of warehousing,” more than any other corridor in the region” along the 60 Freeway. “We believe it’s the kind of investment that’s going to yield good jobs and improve quality of life who live in the area,” he said. ANOTHER SCAM BY THE CITY OF INDUSTRY |
